Built in stove tops

Curious if anyone has a built in stove cook top mounted on a fold down shelf on a barn door instead of the cross the rear counter top? Freeing up counter space. Folds down instead of up, hence depth of build would sit over the counter during travel. A rubber hose with quick disconnects? Door/stove would work at 45*-90* open?
Sort of like setting a coleman propane stove on a shelf.
Thoughts?

I had a similar idea with the stove top burners, seems like a lot of work though.

I found out they make a metal shield that works as a backer when up, and folds down over the top of the stove to use as a work area, so that is the route I would personally go.

Yes, I have seen those, was original thought. Only extra work in my mind is the hose connection. It would mean that the door has to be secured in place from wind but thats not an issue

well propane hose flexes well, shouldn't be hard to do.

Are you thinking about an external mount? I would look at those "Access hatch doors", if one has a hinge you could just slap the stove top on it and throw a chain to hold it open?

Yes, like that. My first inclination was for a camp stove like they show, my second thought, just design for a built in stove top later. I thought of building it so it folds upwards, with a narrow shelf that the camp or built in stove would sit on for travel.

I have been casting about for a built in stove top. I am surprised to find the BTUcratings on burners are fairly low. At least if one compared them to a coleman 2 burner propane camp stove. Those are 10K each. I was at a Bass Pro store and noticed a nice looking 3 burner camp stove that is pretty nice. We may forgo a drop in stove on the door and simply retain a camp stove with Mr. Heater hoses to to propane system.

The wife want a full range in our build, stove with oven.
The darn things cost $500 by Atwood or Suburban.

I have a similar Magic Chef I got used. I did not think I needed an oven, but it is nice to have. It works well for pizza or anything else you'd bake. And is pan storage otherwise.

Not a necessity, but nice. IMHO, if the wife wants it, it is worth the money. That is the going rate for those unless you can find a used one from salvage.

Howdy All;

As a fulltime RVer, I use mine at least every other day or so.
The big burner up front is the MORE POWER version, the 2 in the back will do for simmering
or other low power jobs. Now if I'm doing something like fried foods (schiken and the like),
I'll do them outdoors on a Coleman 2 burner. Saves having to do a full scrub-up of the galley area
and I can always take the Coleman to the car wash when I go for the more serious deep cleanse
that may be required on occasion. Just my experience...
