Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Just starting - looking for dealers and prices

Postby Mazlem » Sat Aug 12, 2017 4:29 pm

I'm getting the conversion bug from youtube vids and forums like this, so now I'm wondering where to go to price out a trailer.

I'm in NY so looking mostly in the northeast. So far I've found Trailershowroom.com with a place in Indiana and have seen it mentioned here on the forums. $4740 for a base 7x18 footer and $7000 with some upgrades, (V-nose, radial tires and spare tires / mounts, ladder racks, stabilizer jacks an a few other bits like vents and water tanks).

Are those prices decent? Any other dealers in the northeast with as good options on their website as trailershowroom? Feels like I could find a camper for cheaper, but since I'm looking at 50/50 storage and living space I figure a cargo trailer may be better overall especially with resale.

http://neotrailers.com/ - all aluminum, many models.

My 7x16x7 NAVR, with spare tire, was 1,870 lbs empty.

Good luck with your search.

Hope this helps.

[edit] Oop, sorry 'bout the typo!

I'm happy with my Kristi trailer. They are in NY with a lot of Northeast dealers. Price was right. Handled a cross country move as a cargo trailer very well. Now that I'm converting it I'm pleased with the build quality behind the walls. It's a steel frame no frills but a good clean slate. Nice paint options and brakes were included on my 6x12 single axle.

Check out Mike Olsefski's auto accessories . He sells Neo and has very good prices. he is near Ithaca NY. I bought 2 trailers from him and is great to deal with.

There seem to be a lot of manufacturers and thus dealers in Maine of all places so I would turn an eye towards there myself.

http://www.alcomusa.com/
http://nitrotrailers.com/

ProLine is in NH on the Me border and makes what seem like outstanding rigs and their site has prices too!

It really depends on exactly what you have in mind for your needs and wants and whether you are willing to drive a distance to get better prices?

There are a whole lot of trailers out there so I wold just start looking and keep it up until you are satisfied.

I did it the other way around. I decided on the brand and size of trailer I wanted first, and which options they offered that I wanted. Mostly from the manufacturers websites and a few phone calls. Then I started shopping for dealers and quotes for that trailer beginning with the closest dealers. Then you can compare price/distance to see what makes the most sense. Only took me three quotes to find one considerably lower than the other two, all within a couple hours of where I live.

Thanks guys! I'm checking out Kristi dealers and Mike's place for Neo trailers now. It's a shame they don't have prices listed like the Trailershowroom site.

If you can get several quotes and you are armed with that info, You will be in a better position to make a reasonable offer to a dealer that may be nearby. If you have to travel for two days to pick up and return, that's at least 500.00 added to the cost. Spending the money locally may be a good idea as well, but you gotta know what it is worth so you can get a deal while leaving some meat on the bone for the dealer.

I would also recommend getting the best trailer you can afford. I went with the cheapest I could find, and wish I would have paid more for quality.

I purchased mines off Ebay from a company called Trailer Country. It isn't the worst trailer in the world, but I would have bought a better quality one looking back.

Good luck in your search.

Amen.
I would have been willing to delay my build if I knew what I know now. That extra foot of headspace is a game changer.
