Fusing question

Postby beachguy005 » Thu Sep 07, 2017 5:26 am

Hi folks, I need a 30 amp fuse and holder for my PWM controller and an 18 amp for my solar panels and I'm curious what fuses and holders people are using. Trying to decide if I should run them through a fuse block or use inline fusing.
Thanks,

I used DC breakers. Inline fuse links would be fine also . In any case, since the fuse is intended to protect wiring, a fuse link as close as you can get to the source as practical is best.

Either way will work just fine, just try to put em' in a place where you can get access and light, hopefully. It's always nice to keep your wiring and fuses and breakers/power supply and batteries, master kill sw. etc. located in one area so you can have quick, easy access and have them labelled and routed and anchored so they make sense. Then run the branch circuits out from there. It looks good but it makes troubleshooting much easier. In this case, neatness counts. You should also keep some spares handy in that area. Fuses, splices, ties, wire nuts, tape etc. Maybe a pair of glasses, multi meter and a flashlight too.

I put this car stereo breaker up next to the battery. The cables will run inside to the main switch and then to the power center to go through individual fuses to each circuit.

Thanks for the posts guys. Iconfabul8, that's the kind of info I was looking for. Something like that is what I'll use for both.
