I searched "kingdom come" and finally found those Everbilt Self-drilling screws. Thanks for the suggestion/recommendation. It was so late when I got home that I haven't had a chance to try them out yet, but hopefully I'll have an opportunity sometime tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the tapping vs. drilling screws. I was told the original ones I purchased were both even though the box just said tapping. Another fella commented that he thought I might need screw threads closer together for the project I was working on. He thought that the wide threads would weaken and fold over. I don't know the science behind them, just looking for something that has worked for others.

I appreciate the responses on both the forum and the PMs. Now it's time to "Raise da Roof!"

All the furring strips have been installed. I finally got the interior electrical insert brace installed today along with the dreaded 2 5/8" hole drilled through the side. I'm pleased how it all turned out. I believe that the brace will give the insert and cable the support required without stressing the aluminum wall. Hopefully, I'll be able to attach the insert along with weather-proofing everything tomorrow. Until then, everything is sealed up to keep the dew and the critters out!

So how did you cut the hole? Looks like you had the exact size hole saw. Very nice, the hole looks perfect! A little trick I do if it is an odd shape or size is, cut the hole out of the board with a jigsaw or bandsaw before installing it. Then use the board as a guide to cut the aluminum with a rotozip bit in a dremel or rotozip. Just keep the smooth part of the shank on the wood and it works wonderful. And then after the interior siding is re-installed, I drill a starter hole in the interior sheeting from the outside and use the router to cut the inside hole from inside also using the original board as a guide. Installed the Electrical Inlet today. This was my first time working with butyl tape... they ought to change the name to "brutal tape". I think that I was just trying to use too much for the job and when I did, I had great difficulty getting it off. I haven't caulked yet but plan on giving it a whirl later on., but first I want to see if there is a better way to clean up the edges a bit.

Hole Saw all the way! The instructions said to use and cut a 2 3/4 hole but measurement came out to 2 5/8. If I had used the larger size, the hole would have overlapped the screw holes. The smaller 2 5/8 was a perfect fit even without being too snug. I'm glad I noticed and checked it first before drilling...

You can take a razor to trim off excess. Really no need to caulk with the butyl tape unless you just want to.

I must be a "glutton for punishment"! I uninstalled the Electrical Inlet do-hickey twice and hopefully this time is for keeps! I really didn't like the thick layer of butyl tape along with the thin rubber gasket that came with it. It tore and broke before the third install... so I guess it was meant to be :-)

But that wasn't the reason, or main reason for the re-install. I was using exterior stranded 10 AWG for the interior instead of the 10-2 Romex I think that RV shops use. Bottom line is that the other was way too difficult to make tight bends when desired. The 10-2 Romex doesn't melt like butter on a hot biscuit, but it is manageable even with a limited imagination.

The inlet wire will go directly to a voltage and surge protector to be hard wired and then go directly to the main breaker box. I'm using the Progressive Industries' EMS-HW30C. The Romex should make it easier to work with.

flboy, Thanks for the tip about using the razor. That does help. It must be the temp or something, because this butyl tape is like working with gum in your hair. I've watched several YouTube videos and see the folks work with like its not a problem at all. The last re-install I did looked much better without the thin gasket washer thingie. We'll see if it rebukes water soon!

Not sure what that gasket looked like, but maybe not needed with butyl tape and if used, I would probably not used the gasket and the butyl tape. The butyl tape becomes the gasket.

The gasket can be used standalone with caulk. In any case, sounds like you got it...

I seem to remember tossing the foam gasket that came with my power inlet. Same thing.. it seemed flimsy and in my view served no purpose with the butyl tape.

In ref. to the gum in the hair comment ^^^ toss the roll in the freezer for about a half hour
before you're ready to use it. Then you should have no problems with it just like in the videos.

I would recommend using a plastic knife or plastic scrapper to trim the bytul tape so you don't
scratch through the paint, which would allow corrosion to start ...

Beautiful day outside to get some work done, but it seemed like I spent an inordinate amount of my time trying to track down some gadgets and gear. I still got a little done, however, not the progress I was aiming for.

I'm planning on not using the convenient knock-outs on the top, bottom and sides of the breaker box. I'm gonna go through the back side instead. I'm still gonna use Romex connectors to insure a tight fit though. Unfortunately, what I had on hand wouldn't go through the metal backside of the breaker box in the size I needed. I'll have to hunt something down tomorrow.

I also need to cut some 1 x 1/2 strips to align, secure and join my two cabinet bases together. I'll cut a 4" hole in the back of the cabinets where the 30 amp shore power comes in. It's coming along, just painfully slow. 5 receptacles, 2 light switches completed with a 3rd being half finished. It's nice to have the furring strips completed and waiting on the lights.

I am coming up on 2 years and I'm still not finished. I know that is not exactly encouraging words, but ya gotta enjoy the journey that's all I can say.
