Yup, any floating floor would have to go in after all the permanent stuff was attached. Not sure how well that would work for heavy loads like ATV or Harley etc.

So sorry to hear about your loss. It is so hard to go through that. I miss my dad too. Your dad is at home now... so good to hear that. We all are just passing through.

FlyBye sorry for your loss. Lost my dad to lung cancer 12 years ago and still miss him. Praying for your family. As Larry Norman said "we are only visiting this planet". Just remember the good times you'll had together. Once again sorry for your loss.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers for our family at this time.

I'm trying to put up some furring strips on the ceiling. The screws I'm using must not be the correct ones because "it ain't working!" I've tried the Teks Self-Tapping Screws #8x1". What have you tried that worked for you? Ideally, I wouldn't want to pre-drill if I did not have to.

Is it dulling the screw or just taking forever to drill? If the latter, are you using a cordless or plug in drill? A plug in will make a huge difference when using self tappers. If the tips are going dull, try a different brand. Maybe your trailer is made out of super steel! Predrill may be your only option.

I'm not sure that it is dulling the screw to any noticeable degree.
I'm using a corded, plug in drill and applying way more pressure than should be required. (As a side note, I've got the strength of 10 men... even though they are very old and very tired men! :-)
I did try a tiny pilot hole to help get things started and it didn't make any difference.

Those who attached furring strips, did you use a screw with a sharp point or one of these self-tappers? And did you have to prep the spot with a pilot hole?

The pine furring strip took a pilot hole to prevent splitting, but no pilot hole for the metal.

Looks like they coated the cutting edge of the screw when they did the treatment.
Take them back and see if they offer any without the coating ... orrr you could burn
through the strength of 6 of those feeble old farts and wire brush off the coating
from the screws you have. Idle hands and all that crap you know the saying ...
If the box store doesn't have anything else try Fastenal.

Self tapping screws aren't the same as self drilling. Some are both.
