I was worried rocks and debris on the road would destroy it but after searching this site some more I saw people having good results without covering it. At this point I've already got the plastic sheets so I'll probably go ahead and use them.

If you're concerned about thermal bridging, and you have the ground clearance, you could add 6"-8" strips of insulation covering the cross-members.

I've still got plenty of room underneath. I'll be capping off what I have with full sheets of 1/2" insulation. My next concern is what to do with the walls. Still undecided there. It's currently 1" foam between the studs sandwiched between sheets of aluminum. Not sure if I'll just go over that or attempt removing inside wall panels without damaging them.

right now it is just glued on top and pressed in tight between the studs. Once i finish it out with the 1/2" foam board it will get capped off with a plastic panel that will be screwed to the crossmembers.

I've got the bottom side complete.


Now I've decided to go ahead and tear out the walls and insulate them a bit better. adding 1/2" foam then wood strips with another 1/2" in between. I'll be off for the next week and hope to make some decent progress with this thing.
This is what was under the walls.

Happy with my progress last week. Still need to build a backrest for the bench that will double as a filler on the middle section for the bed. I am really enjoying this build, it is exciting to see ideas come to life.




This bench needs a folding leg but I'm still debating what to do there. So for now it just gets a block of foam.

Wow! Amazing progress. Did you show us a floorplan? I'll go back and look but I like what I am seeing so far. You can never really have too much insulation, hot or cold it just make sense. Nice job.

Nah, towing with a WK2. Had the WJ for quite a while but currently rebuilding it for my son's first vehicle when he turns 16 next year. Having trouble posting a picture of it due to size limitations.

small update. Finished the table and backrest that doubles as the filler piece for the bed. Trying to figure out what to do for cushions, priced having some made but way more than I'd like to spend. Now waiting on my AC and Refrigerator to show up so I can build the cabinet for those. Also got most of my electrical ordered.

Which motor do you have in the WK2? MY 4.7 WJ is my current tow vehicle, but I'd like to get a diesel when I start traveling more. Looking at the WK Crd
