E-Track Bed

Postby phoenixbound » Mon May 07, 2018 6:26 pm

Updated my E-Track bed. I had a 10" Memory Foam which was very comfortable, but almost impossible to get high enough to get my Harley Tri-Glide under for transport by myself. So, I bought a 6" Memory Foam and cut it down to size for my E-Track bed. It is much easier to raise to clearance height for my Tri-Glide and I think it will comfortable enough for a tired biker (and my wife) to sleep in.
Here is the 10"

Think this will be the plan. If I have to I can raise/lower the bed by myself. The build continues.
Smart enough to know that I still have a lot to learn.

We have a Tempr-pedic mattress at home. It took 4 men to get it upstairs. They are excellent to sleep on, but can really hurt your back moving them. You would think foam would be light, not so much...
Hey phoenix,
Are you staying down at Custer for Sturgis? I had been staying at Glencoe for the last several years, but my riding partner passed away recently so I'm thinking about a change of venue. Maybe move away from the crowd for camping and just ride up and visit the madness? Probably better see if I can find a place soon...

How did the cutting go? I was thinking of buying s foam mattress and cutting it for seat cushions then covering them myself. Didn’t know if the foam would sort of fall apart after cutting though?

@ Joel.brian,
I'm not an expert, but I have used an electric knife like you would use on a turkey to cut foam. Cut like butter.

Ditto.. I did the same... except I almost got hurt.

Next time I just need to be more careful not to get caught using kitchen utinsels as tools in the garage. Must just be my wife. :-)

Yep, we will be at Custer State Park, Lodge campground. New experience for me hauling the bike and sleeping in the CTC. I had the best results cutting the foam with a reciprocating saw, much easier than using a bread knife. I still have to cut up the 10" mattress to re-purpose it. I'll be using a 12" blade on 10" foam so it should go pretty good. Harbor Freight has a pretty good one for about $35. And they have the 12" blades. I already had the battery and charger from my other tools.
