off topic question about a house boat convertion?

I have been wondering about buying a used pontoon boat and convert it like I did my 7x16 cargo trailer and use it to camp on at a lake or river not to far from my house ?
I have been watching some youtube videos so it looks possible but I am sure the DNR might have some rules against it ??
it's just a thought for now

As long as you have the registration up to date what can they say???
As long as you moor it below the tide/high water mark land owners
have nothing to say either.
On the other hand, ... remember that the 2 happiest days for a boater
are the day they buy it and the day they sell it...

PS. yea, I know getting advise about boats and such like from a guy that lives in the desert
is odd but I lived most of my life within an hour of the Atlantic Ocean, Chesapeake Bay and
other bodies of water. Owned a few boats and caretakered a waterfront property just off the
Potomic River. Waterfowl hunters would anchor off the property and the property owners were
non-hunters. Allowed me and 2 others to hunt but that was it.
