My 5x10 NEO conversion project

Postby ricksansom » Tue Sep 04, 2018 11:48 am

Hello Everyone,
I thought I would share with you my trailer project.
After scoping out the possibility of purchasing a teardrop trailer, I was left with one major pro – it would fit in my garage and I wouldn’t have to pay for monthly storage, and one major con – None I found met all of my specific needs. So in spring of 2017, I purchased a new 5x10 all aluminum NEO enclosed trailer with the intent of creating my own design camper.
It took most weekends last summer to get it near completion and we were finally able to take it out for the first time this spring. Each of the three times we’ve had it out I’ve noticed something I’d like to add and my hope is that I’ll have something to add or modify for many years to come with this unit will be sort of a hobby for me.
Please let me know what you think and many thanks to the others on this site whose great projects inspired me!

Major Features:
Double bed that converts to a sofa when required
Chemical toilet for nighttime use
Sidewall windows and roof vent
Plenty of storage cupboards
Barn doors at rear enclosing a full kitchen
Full-size sink with 20gl water tank and on-demand pump
Large cooler on a drawer slide
110v & 12v electrical system with deep cycle battery
All LED lighting
Three burner LP stove

Cheers,
Rick

The pics in your gallery look great. Now you just need to post them. Copy the image-url and place them in between the img brackets. (The ones up top between the URL and *)
Should look like this, only without the space in the [img] tag:

I checked out your Gallery. Wow, that is such a nice camper you made. Awesome cabinetry/woodwork and etc.. Are you a cabinet builder/carpenter by trade? It has that Sailboat/Yacht look. Very nice!

Hey Ricksansom,
Welcome and glad you decided to join us.
That is a fantastic lil' trailer. Nice craftsmanship and very functional. Every thing you need and nothing you don't. I think a lot of people would love to have one just like it. Congratulations and enjoy that trailer!

I'll echo what others have said. You have built a very functional and beautiful CT conversion! I've looked at your gallery several times and each time I see details that I have noticed before. You ought to be very proud of your conversion!

Oh Garsh,
Thanks for the nice words folks.
About the cabinetry... the cupboard doors/drawers & countertop are Ikea brand and the rest is poplar 1/4" ply. This was my first attempt at any kind of cabinet making. I'm not a cabinet maker by any stretch but my real job in the aerospace business (gas turbines) has taught me to be detail oriented.

I do have a question for the group. I'm looking to get a holder for the 5lb. LP tank that would fit behind the driver side trailer wheel. Amazon and other distributors want quite a bit for one and I'm too cheap. Does anyone have an idea for a self-made one?

That is AWESOME! Very close to what my ideal CT would be. Very nice work! What is the interior height floor to ceiling?

To Florida Native:
Re your question on the trailer's dimensions..... The inside height is 58.5" and it has a width of 27". Can't really stand up completely (I'm over 6') but good enough to get dressed in the morning!
I insulated it but didn't take away any interior space.
