Always hard to price a custom build out that's not been built for a specific client. Some may look at your mods and love it others may not. I guess as a base you need to figure the original cost of trailer, additional parts, then the all too tricky labor.

I've built a number of wood boats and can say that labor is always a looser. When I did boat repair I'd make $80/hour. When I'd build a new boat I'd be lucky to get half that.

Here a 6x12 V-nose right off the lot is $3,600 +/-. There was a 6x12 home conversion a while back on our CL with similar amenities as yours and it was listed at $5,000. Don't think it sold.

For my 6x10 I paid $2,700 off the lot. I've put $1,500 into it and if I was to sell it it would be lucky to recoup what I have into it. Just the fact that its built out for my purpose. Sure some of the parts (e-track, shore power, battery/solar system, ladder racks) would benefit a new owner,. The rest of my mods may not.

dirtsailor - That is the issue, how much is too much? We don't have many of these come up for sale here in OK, so there are no reference points to work with.

Padilen - I'm looking to sell it. I built it for a specific situation that got changed without my knowledge, so I need to sell it to finance my wife's vision of our trailer.

Hey jw,
Since most of us are not officially in the business of conversions, we don't operate in a business like manner. Therefore, attention to cost vs potential profit really is not a consideration, and efficiency and productivity are probably to low to even track. Perhaps the right approach is to find a comparable (in terms of amenities and sq. footage) production trailer and adjust plus or minus for quality of materials, workmanship, fit and finish and use or wear. You can't really mark up materials that were purchased at full retail, so any money to be made will have to come from the labor and design. If you can make say 30% as the cost of labor that would be pretty good all things considered. So lets just ballpark it here. Trailer plus materials approx. 4500.00? x 30% = 1350.00 for a total of 5850.00. How much comparable production trailer will that buy? Probably not a lot. So you may have a shot at your asking price. You won't be laughing all the way to the bank, but if you can get out in one piece and chalk it up to learning experience that is a win. Take half of that labor and put it in your pocket. Take the other half and buy your wife a dozen roses and a nice dinner. Start your next dream.
Good luck!

McDave - Thanks for the break down. This wasn't supposed to be a "for profit" build, but as a quick "means to an end" build for an extended out of town job opportunity. Unfortunately, that situation imploded (the company filed bankruptcy), so this trailer has become expendable. I got a list of "this is what I want(s)" from my wife for "her" trailer, so I need to sell this one to finance her vision. If I can get cost plus 20%, I'd be ok with that. One is never going to fully recover labor in one of these builds, partially because they are very builder specific and if it's not your full time job, labor rates get skewed quite a bit. I'm shooting for $5k +/-. If I get there, I'm good.
