Portable AC Window Hatch in Cargo pictures needed!

Postby usmc70_14 » Wed Aug 21, 2019 5:40 pm

Hello everyone...

Can you guys post some pictures or videos on your window AC hatches that you have on your cargos?

Reason I'm asking, is I need ideas on how the door looks so I can build the hatch.

My hatch is a production piece that the manufacturer sourced.

I’m guessing maybe 16x20? I’m not at a place where I can go measure it. I gave them a minimum size, with some extra, for a typical 5000 BTU unit. They sourced the model of baggage door closest to that. I peeled the sticker off the hatch so I don’t even have a brand name or a SKU number. Can’t be all that hard to find online somewhere.

I custom ordered my trailer with a cargo door. I built the slide out the first go around, now I’m redoing my original designs with aluminum.

Here's how we did ours. It's a small, 5,000 BTU window unit. We take it along when we think we'll need it. It cools the camper with no problems. So far, this setup has worked out great for us!

We got it here: https://www.teardroptrailerparts.com/pricing.html It's called a baggage door on their site.

When we added the awning earlier this summer we were relieved to see that the AC hatch door did not interfere.

Not a cargo trailer but the same idea. I put mine on slides so I can push it out when needed and push it back in when traveling.

bdosborn, in the bottom picture, is the a/c in the retracted position with the hatch closed? any issues with the hatch leaking when it's raining? btw, nice work...

Yeah, that's with the AC inside and the hatch closed. I haven't had any leaks so far and it doesn't really get wet with the AC out as the hatch keeps most of the rain out. It would take a driving rain to get inside.

Thank you very much for all the great information you guys provided.

I'm really liking the idea of having it on slides.

That’s how I did mine. Picked up some heavy duty drawer slides (100lbs max) from Lowe’s. I’ve been running them for about 2-3 years now and no probs.
