Tips on Anchoring Trailer?

Looks like we may get a storm this weekend on Florida. I am wondering how you guys are anchoring your trailers to withstand wind damage from storms.

I've researched earth anchors and with Florida ground I don't think that's an option.

My concern is for tropical storm winds blowing over the trailer. Dry weight is about 2500 lbs. It's a tandem axle 7x14 vnose. GVWR of 7000 lbs.

The only solution I've been able to come up with is getting 2 IBC totes, each holding 275 gallons. At 8.5 lbs per gallon of water , that's about 2400 lbs each. I'm thinking of spacing them out evenly and then dropping all 4 stabilizers. That'll be a little over 7k lbs. I have 2 drop downs on the back and 2 EAZ lifts on the front.

I would love to find a way to tie it down, but I don't think filling 2 buckets full of concrete with an anchor point in it, with straps would do anything.

What are your thoughts or ideas?

Your idea with the IBC totes and water sounds like a good one. On the day of the storm I suggest parking with the V-nose facing the direction of the wind, so the slab side of the trailer doesn’t act as a sail. Also, I’d be wary of being in the path of any trees that could potentially fall on it.

Fence T-posts are affordable, easy to put in the ground and could be driven deep to provide an anchor point. They can be removed with a jack and section of chain, left for future use or cut off at ground level.

I don't know what your earth/soil is like, but I would use a post hole auger, mine is a manual type shaped like a clam shell, to drill down about 3 feet and cement an anchor at each corner. If your wind is strong enough to pull them out of the ground, there probably isn't anything that would hold. Good luck , let us know how it goes.

I used the Screw into the ground shed anchors by each wheel and then tied the axles down with heavy duty ratchet straps on each side to keep it from tipping and did the same at the tongue to keep it from turning. Should be good for Cat2 or maybe 3. As after that , it doesn't matter as it will have trees on it and etc.

This will be our first hurricane since getting our box trailer. We will get some weather with this one, but so far it does't look too bad for us here.
I've dealt with trailered boats and storms a few time in the past. I've always just hitched them up to the tow vehicle for the weight, and tied the back down with chains and/or ropes to screw anchors, trees, fence posts... Whatever ya got. It doesn't have to be the perfect solution, and it doesn't have to be pretty. It just has to (hopefully) be enough. And like Don said, it can get to the point where nothing matters. You can only do so much.

Looks like my house will take a CAT1 this weekend. I am in Nebraska in the CTC tonight. My kids who live in town will put up my hurricane shutters, but no worries on the CTC. If the house sustains any substantial damage, I will have to fly home out of Omaha which would mean that I will miss Sturgis event next week. :-(

Thanks. I have family in town and they are preparing my house for the storm tomorrow. Will likely just be a rain event. Hoping that is all as I don't want to have to go back home and miss Sturgis event next week. I have hauled the CTC this far.
