Looking for ideas on hiding LED strip lights

Postby usmc70_14 » Tue Aug 18, 2020 7:01 pm

Hello everyone...

I'm finally making progress on my build. Now I'm at the hiding stage.

I'm looking for some type of plastic/diffuser/bendable material that will primarily be used to diffuse the light strip along with easy access to my electrical wires. This material will be placed along the top corner areas of the trailer, both sides, running front to back.

I'm in the process of doing a ceiling with fiber optic lights. That'll give me a star ceiling for 12 volt use. So I need to fit the small light boxes in there.

For the life of me, I can't remember what that material is called. Little help or pictures of your set up would also help me out.

Not sure exactly what you’re after, but I used LED strip lights mounted to an aluminum extrusion with a diffusing cover for the under cabinet lights. The alum and cover were sold separately from the lights.

For the lights at the top of the cabinets, where it meets the ceiling, I have the same light strip in a channel for indirect lighting. Since it’s nearly at eye level height, I wanted a solution that wouldn’t blind you.

I went to HD today and looked around. I found fluorescent light panels. They are flexible pieces that are used in office ceiling lights.

I'm thinking if I keep the length of it, then cut it down to about 8 inches. With that 8 inch piece, I think I would be able to slide it in between the wall and the ceiling. I think this would give me access to wiring along with diffusing the the led light strips. I would get it in some frost or milky color.

Did more research on the fluorescent panels. Apparently, the only way to cut them down to size is by placing them on top of wood, then use an oscillating tool to cut them. This way they won't chip, crack or break apart. Now I just wish HD would rent small tools as I don't own that tool.

I thought the whole reason to build TD or anything was to acquire more tools. He/she that has the most tools when they die wins!!! :thumbsup: ;)

I built LED strip lights with common 12 VDC LED strips in plastic tubing. Some I frosted with either tracing paper or drafting mylar, some I just left bare. No muss, no fuss. Raw LED strips are less than $0.25 per foot in long lengths. They hook directly to your teardrop's 12 VDC power.

Howdy All;

Just a thought, maybe try sliding the LED through some PEX tubing???

Try your local replacement glass company. I know mine will cut polycarbonate lenses in white. I never asked them about other colors.

That may work out...

I'll report back once I find out if they can do that.

Thanks
