flboy, Howdy;

Nice find, what sort of "warehouse" did ya find it at? One drawback to livin' in the sticks
as I do is the lack of anything close to a warehouse except for chiles and onions.

Hi Hank. My brother's warehouse/shop. Not a huge place. He runs his business from there and keeps and works on alot of his equipment there. We were talking about my new build and he remembered this couch stored there with no plans to be used. Said I could have it if I can use it.

I am not going to put in a Blackwater tank in this build for a few reasons. I will have a small gray water tank for those times I m getting a shower parked in a rest stop, Cracker Barrel, or etc.. I can empty the 5 gallon cassette holding tank on the Thetford in any toilet as needed so this really will be more convenient that finding a dump station.

IMO, a good plan.
A porta-potty enclosure doesn't take up any more space than a water proof shower stall... (Note to self for next build.)
In our boat camping days, the pot came out of the cuddy cabin at bed time, and went outside in the cockpit. Darkness provided privacy for midnight needs.
For weekend or solo camping, I'm sold on the portables.
I'm not going outside until the temperature is above my age.

Yes.. this camper is being built for the solo traveler, so I want small and nimble and easy to grab and go. I built alot of things into my other CTC with the Mrs. in mind, so we will take that CTC when she travels with me. It is nice and comfortable, but also big and heavy and is a bit more of a production to hook up, pickup and etc. not to mention I cannot get it into some places I'd like to go.

My realization of the fact I wanted small and nimble was when I was stuck down a NF road in Vermont and had to back up a mountain and it was treacherous and nerve wracking.

Amazon is already delivering pieces and parts as I await the cargo trailer factory to complete my order. :-)

flboy, Howdy;

So, basically you'll have His and Her trailers. Won't even go to the bulker, harder to handle bits... :roll: ;)

Lol.. I am retired now and she is not, so I have a bit more leisure time. Lots of 3 to 4 day trips to the woods. Lex is not picky.. she just needs some floorspace..

After 40+ years, I believe my wife would buy me a solo trailer, just to get me out of her hair for a few days at a time.
"Take your PIMA dog with you." Would be the last thing she would say, before kissing me good-by. :roll:

It’s only been 19 years for me and she’s been saying that for the last 5......can’t imagine after 40.

She says she likes me home to wrangle the twins

Don,
As always, we’ll be following your build. We love the bigger travel trailer, but would like a smaller trailer that could be towed by a mid-size SUV for a longer trip. We don’t really care for the small commercial travel trailers, so our thought is a smaller cargo trailer as a base. Been working on a few 6’ width designs with a rear slide out. Take care, Tom

Lithium Battery Build - LiP04 - for new CTC

Postby flboy » Mon Jan 25, 2021 8:22 am

Thanks Tom.

I have decided to build my own LiP04 Battery Bank for the new CTC. Ordered qty 4 3.2V 280aH Grade A LiP04 batteries for $438 delivered door to door via Alibaba. I still need to order a BMS (battery management system) and I will have to assemble and test. The BMS I am ordering also will be 200A BMS and cost about $124. So, for a total of $562 I should have a 280aH (all useable aH) battery bank that weighs about 50lbs and takes up alot less space than 4 Golf Cart batteries that only have 225aH useable, are 248 lbs and take regular maintenance.

I don't need to go into advantages of the charging rate, life expectancy , and superior technology of LiP04 over FLA batteries, but this cost will be about the same per aH because I am ordering the cells and building the bankk myself. 3 BattleBorn Batteries (the best IMO) which would get me 300aH (20aH more) would cost $2,850, so this is a huge savings and worth the risk to me. All the LiP04 cells every maker uses are made in China now... none can be manufactured` in USA due to the laws.

In any case, I have to wait 40-50 days for shipping, so they should arrive about the same time as the new trailer being finished at the manufacturer. Getting it all on order.

I will make a complete video of the batteries and the build and testing of the batteries which may help you if you decide to do similar. The cost of this is equivalent to Lead Acid with all the benefit of Lithium Ion. Sounds almost too good to be true... We will see :worship: :worship:
