Fall Weekend in Lassen Nat'l Park

Postby cdfnchico » Tue Oct 19, 2010 12:56 am

Played hooky Friday and took a couple of the monkeys with us for an overnighter in Lassen Volcanic Nat'l Park...right in our backyard and frequently overlooked. Spent the night at Manzanita Lake, at the northwest gate. Beautiful fall colors...cool mountain air...and the campground to ourselves. The boys hooted and hollered all afternoon.

After we woke up Sat, we drove through the park. Amazing!

Speaking of monkeys and waking up ...our youngest grandson was with us. His momma had given him this little "pig" flashlight. The boys are sleeping in the side tent next to us, when, bright and early...like 6am...we start hearing this "oink" ... "oink". Gotta love 'em!

Love Lassen NP, one of the least visited National Parks. In the dozen or so times I was there, it was always during the summer. Looks like I missed a beautiful time of year. Thanks for the photos. I've never seen a better one of the lake. Excellent.

Yeah great place. We camped there on the way back from IRG 1.0 a few years back.

Great shoot of Manzanita lake, been years since I've visited Lassen.

All four of you in that little teardrop? Where/how do you all sleep? Oh, I see...a little side tent. Was it warm enough?

Thanks for sharing your pictures and trip with us.

Thanks guys! It was fun. Have to get the last few trips in before the weather turns or we get busy with holidays. We're headed out again Halloween weekend...maybe Yosemite!?

Mount Lassen is the southernmost active volcano in the cascade Range and last erupted On May 22, 1915. I vaguely remember visiting it sometime in the middle 1950s. Thank you for sharing your pictures.
