Teardrop + Kayaking = Great Weekend
Posted: Mon Aug 20, 2007 9:33 amI had a chance to take the td while out for an extended kayaking weekend. My first stop Thursday late afternoon was at Slippery Rock Creek in Pa. It was only 2 hours away and gave me a chance to set up a tarp for when I'm traveling by myself.
Here's my first campsite at Slippery Rock with my lightweight fly on top.
Friday morning I finished the drive to Ohioplyle to paddle the lower Yough with the women of our club for the annual Ladies Day trip. This is one of my most favorite days to kayak.
It's fun hamming it up for the local photographer who waits at Cucumber Rapid. It's a fun surf wave to get on and my new boat carved the wave so nice.
The next morning I noticed all my kayak friends were wearing name tags. I asked if anyone new was with our group? Their reply was no, that they thought maybe I had forgotten who they all were since I was AWOL for a year of boating while building the td! It was really funny to see 15 people walking around with name tags all morning.
Most kayakers don't set up tents unless they would be in one location for a longer time. Generally to move to find water levels good for boating. Most of us have trucks, vans, suvs or wagons so we can easily pull into camp and sleep in our vehicles. Here's the td nestled in along a row of vehicles. When we left for paddling on Saturday my td was the only one left in camp!
Sat and Sunday were great days on the river. It was my first time back on the lower Yough in over a year. Here's another shot of me this time running Cucumber Rapid. Yep.......I'm in there somewhere!
I towed the td home Sunday in 3 1/2 hours of heavy rain. This morning found I had a small leak in the driver side td door so I propped up the mattress and it's drying out now. No big deal at all and will take another look at the weatherstripping on that door. Everything else was dry!!!!!!!
