First camping trip - Lake Charles S P

Postby Lookfar » Fri Nov 12, 2010 2:20 pm

Decided to spend Vetrans Day by taking "Oops" on her first camping trip to Lake Charles S.P. here in Arkansas. Very nice park, and not at all crowded on a Thursday. Everything went very well though it was a little cool last night. Need to keep in mind that an inflatable mattress doesn't provide much insulation...

I did take a lot of photo's, but they were just of empty campsites and leaves. But I did have a small campfire and a LARGE time.
Was going to stay tonight, but the lake was "drawn down" so fishing wasn't much of an option. Also, it is supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow morning.
Regardless, it was pretty much a perfect "maiden voyage" and I'm definitely looking forward to more.

Congratulations on your first trip...your TD looks great in its natural habitat. Looks like it was a nice, peaceful trip. Nothing like a campfire to melt your troubles away. :campfire:

Thanks, Kelly and Duke. It was very nice and quiet. I've proved that the tear is "campable", now I just need to finish it. Little things, like fenders and stuff. Wish I could have stayed tonight too, but not much point in leak testing it while camping.

Thanks Larry. Been wondering what you've been up to. Maybe we could get a "Razorback" group together sometime...

Thank you, Paul. However a couple of Home Built stickers in Red might help. Are you still doing them?

Yes I can still do them. I just have to plug in my relocated computer and I'm good to go. The vinyl is the only thing I use my old computer for anymore, so when I moved it, I never bothered plugging it in.

Mucho congrats on your first outing! Looks like a great park! I love it when a park is deserted, you pretty much have the whole park to yourself! I camped one weekend at Cedar Hill SP and it was teenager mayhem all Sat night with music playing and getting in and out of the car for whatever reason. Didn't bug me too much but I noticed it, and then Sunday morning EVERYONE tore out and I was all alone up on a hill the next 24hrs, the only one I saw was the park ranger every once in a while.

Many happy returns to you! ! ! :Flippin Burger:

Butch,

You're correct! I did miss your post. What a wonderful teardrop and beautiful first outing. Congratulations. :applause:  :applause:

I don't know if it is a primal urge, a back to nature longing, or whatever, but there's something about a campfire in a campground that cannot be duplicated.

Sorry to hear about the lake being down. Maybe someone could explain to me why parks draw down lakes. (I don't know much about fishing, although I'd like to learn some day.)

Regardless of the lake, it sounds like you had a great time.

Take care, Tom

Tom, they actually did give a reason for drawing the lake down, but my attention stopped at "mud". Don't remember what the reason was.
I'm afraid I am not much of a fisherman. I guess that is why it is called fishing rather than "harvesting". Just like hunting, for me. I'd hunt the deer, but I was never a threat to them. After a while I quit bothering. But fishing is restful (usually) and I don't worry much about catching anything.

Butch,

I wish you hadn't directed me to this section of the forum. It is too tempting to visit while I'm at work.

Morning Tom;
This is by far one of my favorite places. Even if I'm not going to a lot of the places I see, they are well worth seeing from another's viewpoint.
By the way, like your new avitar. Where was it taken?
