30 days & 6733 miles

Three days after we completed our TD, we hooked up and hit the road. 30 days and 6733 miles, we completed our trip without a single problem with the TD.

OK. Well if you look in my album there are a few pics for the build and of the TD hitched to our ride. That's a 97 VW Passat TDI diesel. We averaged 30 mpg for the trip. Loaded the TD was about 2000 lbs., so I was pleased with milage.
As for the route, we left Kalispell, MT and headed east. We traveled for a week through MT, ND MN, IA, IL IN, OH, WV & Virginia on our way to the DC area. We did a lot of tourist things in DC and area for a 1 1/2 weeks then went to Willamsburg, VA area for a few days. Then to the coast and up to Annapolis by way of the east shore passing throuogh the southwest corner of Delaware just so we could add 1 more state to the list. We skirted around Baltimore, as we running short of time on our way to Gettysburg. After a few days at Gettysburg we hightailed it home in 4 days time.

Hey Bob,
You know how it is. We could have been in Virginia for 3 months and not have seen every thing we wanted too. Ihave buddy I was in the service with is from Virginia Beach. I was going to look him up. Maybe next time.

I love that tent/awning - whatever it is. I am so curious about the rigging. It looks like a canopy, but it seems to have a door. Can you tell me what it is?

I live in western Washington, and as everyone knows, we get a lot of rain. I have to have something that give me some protection.

That tent is a Cabela's deluxe truck tent. We ordered it from there web site. It works great. It makes for a great changing area, as we're old and trying to changes clothes in the TD is a real pain. We also have a porta pottie in there for night time use.

It's in there. For one the frame is made from 1 1/2X4X1/4 inch channel iron & a heavey duty axel unit from an old boat trailer I had. So it's way heavier than it should be, but I was into using what I had on hand. The 2000 lbs. I was referring to was total loaded weight, so that includes about 550 lbs. of stuff.
