Route 66

Postby postofficemike » Mon Aug 06, 2012 1:32 pm

Have any of you members gone on the Route 66 Trip? We want to go and was wondering about best places to visit. Also best RV camps to visit and ones to avoid, if any. Not a camper, but want to get a Little Guy 5 Wide and start being one. Is that too long a trip for that small a trailer? Will be pulling with a Mini Cooper. No time frame. Best time of year to go? As you can see, any info in any area would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've found that September and October works good for the western states. It's not too long of a trip in a TD. Interspersed with motels, it can be very enjoyable. There should be plenty of info for Route 66 on here as well as the net. Would like to do trip myself someday. Parts of it anyway.
Good luck!

Made that trip last fall. We followed 44 and got on and off 66 along the way to see some sights. Three week trip to Mesa Verde, Capitol Reef, Bryce, Zion, Arches, then back east on 70. Not too long at all in a teardrop with no motels.

Let me know when you decide to go. I can certainly give you some suggestions for what might be some fun stops on and near Rt 66 in Arizona. Lot's to see and very enjoyable.

Rode my bike out Rt 66 three years ago. Loved it. (Been wanting to do that since '68.) I was tent camping with my bike. Unbelieveably hot that year. Grabbed more CHEAP motels than campgrounds for some relief. Wanting to take the wife soon. Still building my new TD.
