Pizzaguys Pic Trip to Walk the Winds

Postby Pizzaguy » Tue Aug 28, 2012 1:26 pm

Took awile to get these images processed. I'll break them out by days.....

Hope I don't overload the server! I took over 3500 images on this 10 day trip!

Enjoy!!

Day 1

Left Mpls/St Paul about 10am, after a quick stop at my local camera store for some supplies I hit the road. 1st nights goal was Theodore Roosevelt NP in western North Dakota which I hit right at sundown.

After setting up camp I caught this guy crashing the Ranger Program.

Image

Then I took a few star trails before I hit the sack......

Image

Don't worry, it gets better!

Good Start Bruce!

I took ONLY 1700 pictures in my 15 days of travel. I've been going through them and have it down to just over a thousand so far.

Day 2

After breaking camp at 7am I headed for the Montana border with a quick (I don't think stopping at a Walmart Super Center is ever QUICK!) stopin Billings. I headed for Red Lodge & the Beartooth Pass.

A look at the glacierly carved lakes below the pass.

I managed to snag a GREAT campsite at Crazy Creek Campground with this view right from my campsite. That is Pilot Peak on the left w/ Index Peak just to the right. On a side note this Campground had the most wonderfully clean and smelling pit toilets I've ever experienced in my 40 yrs of camping!

And my site with that WONDERFUL bathroom!

more to come.........

Day 2 continued........

After running into Cooke City for the couple of things I forgot I ran accross the highway to capture Crazy Creek Falls.

Image

Now this was the night that the Percid Meteor Shower was supposed to be at its peak. It was also the first time in like 10 yrs that it would occur during a New Moon. A New Moon is when the Moon is NOT visible as it is in Earths shadow. So we were going to be rewarded with Dark Skys at an elevation of 8500 feet.

After cooking dinner and watching the last light of the day disappearing over the horizon.........

Image

So I built a campfire and waited for darkness.....

Image

Did a few star trails.........

Image

and a few shots of the Milky Way........

Image

and then went after some meteor showers.....

Image

Image

but my eyes kept glancing above me to the Milky Way.....

Image

Image

It had been a long day, time to get my ass to bed. The next day we head into Yellowstone.........

(to be continued..........)

WOW! I missed these pictures because I was on the road when you posted and I am still trying to catch up.

GREAT pictures! Wished we all could have stayed at Walk the Winds longer.

I thought it was a lot when I took over 500 pictures with my point-and-click camera. With the number of pictures that you took and the quality of them, I am humbled. :o :D
