I really enjoyed your trip blog! You brought back good memories when you mentioned Pocatello, ID and parts of Nevada. We lived in Pocatello and Winnemucca during the 80's and for a very short period, in Wyoming. Loved living in Idaho and Nevada but not so much in Wyoming, or not in Rock Springs, WY anyway. I used to take the Amtrak to Reno about once a month just for the heck of it. I would love to take a road trip like that but don't think I would want to pull that big a$$ Scotty. This is when I miss my Tear.

Becca, I didn't know that about you...that you lived in Idaho and Wyoming. I'll bet you loved visiting Reno. Did you win much?

Thanks, Louella. Yes, it was just me and my four-legged friend. My fur-friend didn't mind if I ogled the Sheriff and his fancy patrol car.

Yep, loved Reno! I never won big but the hubby brought home some fun money many times. We would spend the weekend and ski in Squaw Valley or Heavenly at least twice a month in the winter. We met Sonny Bono and his wife while we were renting our skiis once. He was standing next to me at the counter just chatting away. When we lived in Pocatello, we'd go skiing at a small mountain area about 30 minutes from there and on the way back stop at the hot springs to relax. We also skiied at Grand Targhee and Sun Valley. I miss those days. Such beautiful country.

Becca, thanks for the info. In our never ending quest for potential places in the West to retire, Reno will now be on our list of places to check out.

Sharon,

Looks like you had a wonderful time! We visited South Dakota last year and loved it. We also stayed at the Reno KOA on our way to the IRG.

Great trip,

Bruce

HaHa! Relieved is more like it. It was a big deal and I started planning it back in January. But, now, I'm going to have to find something else to look forward to and work towards ... ...Alaska? $> :D

Between you and Becca, I'm wondering about Reno, myself!
I thought about stopping but didn't think ahead enough to plan for it.....Don't like to drop in on folks unannounced.

Bruce, my stay at Stockade Lake was on a recommendation that you had given someone; so, thanks!

PS. If I were to stay at that Reno KOA again, I would probably try for space A58, in the corner....private on 3 sides with some shade trees plus a good view of the river and gorge.

If you travel to Alaska you will most likely pass right through where I live we get lots of Alaskan travelers So if you do I'd love to see your trailer in person Maybe toast a glass and have a hotdog or two there is a FREE camp ground about 5 minutes from town it's called the Holmes River or the Beaver River all depends who you ask but there are about 9 sites and did I mention its FREE they supply firewood and there is an out house and pretty decent fishing its located in one of the side valleys very majestic scenery so if you come this way you should stay there it would be cool to meet you

What was the average cost of a night in a at KOA?

Whenever I get my tiny trailer built or bought I plan 1-2 western trips from Ohio just like you have done.

Get lost, make the most of it, no hurry right? LOL!

:D
