Big Horns, WY trip 2013 ...

I recently returned from my annual camping trip in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. I believe this is my 19th year. Needless to say I love it there! This was my first extended stay in my teardrop. I was there 11 nights. I camped at about 9,600 feet elevation in the national forest. I have an indoor/outdoor thermometer that records the high and low each 24 hours. It got down to 29 degrees one morning and mid-30's several other days. Mid-70's or 80's for highs most days. Great weather.

This was Lum's (my Springer Spaniel) first trip to the Horns. He did great. It only took him one try to learn that moose don't have a sense of humor. I camped alone a few nights and had company the other nights. One friend brought his 28 foot camper over for a while. For me, this trip is about de-stressing. I don't schedule or plan much. My only constants were heading out near first ligh and last light for photo opps. I'm always the camp cook which I like. It gets me out of doing the dishes so I can slip out and find elk or moose.

I was very comfortable in my teardrop! Read a couple of books and I had lots of movies on my iPad and used a Jawbone external speaker for sound. I used the lights for an hour or more each night and also ran the fan most nights. I never ran out of battery charge in 11 nights. It's about an hour and 45 minute round trip to get to a spot where I can get cell service so that was infrequent. I also charged my iPad and camera batteries in the teardrop. I found very few items that I need to add to my kit and quite a few I could leave at home. All in all a great trip! I'll go over at least twice more this year for 3 or 4 nights. Looking forward to it. I added a lot of pictures to my gallery. These are some of my favorites.

This is the ridge that overlooks my camping spot. Not many cars, roads or people. If you look closely you can see my teardrop near my buddies 28 footer.

(For some reason my pictures are getting cropped on here. Not sure why.)

Just beautiful. I think my blood pressure dropped a few points just looking at your peaceful photos. I can see why you love it so much, and I'm glad the teardrop worked out so well for you. Many more happy trips!!

Yup, that would be a de-stressing trip. Gorgeous. Thanks for the photos.

Bob! Fantastic photos! Thank you for sharing.

Cynthia here...Steve is wondering what kind of lights you have in your tear drop. He said he bets you have LED lights. Since we still very new to this, one of our biggest concerns is draining the battery. We don't have LED lights...yet. We've been told they are the best for saving power.

Indeed they are LED. Originally they were incandescent. 3 days with lights, fan and charging iPad was previous max. Now that I changed over to LED's I made it 11 nights on one charge. Might have gone longer. Also the light is better quality with no heat. Change 'em out!

Thanks. That's my favorite picture out of this year's bunch. I got a 16X20 print of it for my office.

The shoes, huh? Vasque from REI. http://www.rei.com/product/829828/vasque-talus-wp-hiking-boots-mens

I love your alarm system! The ones that go WOOF are the best. They are also pretty good heaters when it gets cold out.

Here are a few shaky videos. One is the view out of the door of my teardrop. Turn your volume down. My friend is running his generator. Very loud.

I can't decide of I like the shoes pic or moose better, all were spectacular. The moose are disappearing from MN so it was nice to see they are still around somewhere.

So, the real question; did you fill your tag?
Great looking spot to spend some quiet time. That should get you through the winter, and the picture on your office wall will help.

I was there the last 11 days of June. No hunting seasons open during that time. I did draw WY antelope and SD deer tags last fall. Filled all of them.
