Trip to norcal over the 4th

Postby nevadatear » Sun Jul 07, 2013 7:20 pm

Randy and I wanted to get away from the stifling 108 heat, so we headed up to northern California, hoping to find a campsite. As it turned out, it wasn't that hard. We found a small (25) NF campground about 25 miles north of Truckee (site of the Donner party), and they had a number of very nice, empty sites. The highway noise was minimal, buffeted by the wind through the trees. It cooled down to the low 50s at night. We ate well too! Even in the lower loop of only 15 site, there were 3 teardrops! One we already knew, glen and shelly from Hickory nut trailer, and the others were new owners of a socal. Never had so many tears in such a small place, outside a gathering before. Also met a really nice young man full timing in his RV. He was very impressed with out tear and said he will be blogging about it soon on [email protected].

We had a great time, some birding, some walking, and a whole lot of resting.

Debbie and Randy, I don't know which looks better in your pictures: the campground or your teardrop in the wild! :D

Thanks for sharing. It looks really great!

Good to hear that you found space in the cool. We actually saw another teardrop in the wild last weekend also. We were at French Meadows and they drove through looking for a space. There were plenty but they moved on to another area (Lewis). They ended up following us out when we left. We had waved when they came in and again as they passed us on the way out but no response. Have no idea who they might be. They were driving a black SUV with a white tear. Going through Sacramento an aluminum skinned tear passed us and waved. Theirs looked to be a six wide homebuilt.

How did you like Cottonwood? We have thought about trying it sometime for a quick trip. We really like East Meadow on Jackson Meadow Reservoir.

Looks like a fine time Debbie. I know that campground but have never actually stayed there. Still on the list though. BTW, all you missed down here was heat and a few wild t-storms. :?

and Phooey: +1 on East Meadow at Jackson. One of our favorites too.

Shaun and Caryn, i imagine since it is so close, cottonwood is a lot like jackson meadows in terms of habitat That one will certainly be on our list to try. Lots of the sites in the back of the loops backed up to the forest, so it felt very secluded. We liked the lower loop better than the upper loop, more trees. However, the upper loop would be a great place for a gathering, the sites surrounded an open area. The first sites are definitely to clse to the highway, but when you got jst a little away, the road nose was minimal. Except for motorcycles, of course
