Short Youtube Video of mini wooden teardrop "Tumbleweed"

Postby TERRYBECK » Sun Aug 04, 2013 1:13 pm

On a 10 day trip to Colorado (I am from Little Rock) I made a short video of my camper, built Jan-March of 2012. It is very small but my wife and I made it and one night even the dog slept inside. It is 40 inches wide and on a 7 feet long floor. I guess it weighs about 750 lbs. It is my second wooden teardrop and built along the same artistic design. I got the idea and general instructions on how-to from a fellow forum member named Rob. I pulled this all over Colorado and over Independence Pass, Phantom Canyon Road, Wolfcreek Pass, and into Moab, Utah. I learned a lot from building the first camper and made some good improvements to this one. It is well balanced on the axle so I have handles on the front that allow me to manipulate it easily. I added a retractable cord underneath to give fast hook up to power. A microwave with old fashioned mechanical knobs for the timer and power setting was mounted under the hatch. I learned there are two ways to teardrop. One way is to go to a camp and stay a while. In this situation, cooking, setting up and relaxing are important elements. Most of my teardropping has consisted of sightseeing and lots of driving. Cooking and setting up are kept to a minimum as time is at a premium and sometimes I get to the campsite after dark. I have learned that for my purposes traveling light is best so I only take the basics. Microwaving supper and buying a frozen meal in the local grocery store work out great and leave no mess. I have a popup shower from Bass Pro Shop that opens in seconds that I use for a toilet shelter and I take a couple of folding chairs. When I first started I loaded way too much camping gear but I learned finally that I never use it. I pulled it on my last trip with a small VW Cabrio 5 speed and did well with it. This post might fit better under another category but I always look here for fun posts so that is why I am posting it here.

Nice lil' CabinCarEsque build !

The screen door is a great feature of it.

It sounds like it fits your needs well, - so,
Happy Camping !
