Feeding chipmunks at the Muskallonge State Park while at the campfire...

The entire beach at the state park is covered with pebbles like this

We have been going out there at least once a year, sometimes earlier, sometimes later in the season.

I actually still use film cameras. Fuji 6x9, Voiglaender 35mm and a Linhof Kardan large format camera (bellows and black cloth deal). Of all my cameras, only the 35mm has a battery and thats only for measuring exposure.... I like the thinking persons camera. I spent a week at Linhof in Germany doing some training on their large format camera systems which included shooting some 8x10" polaroids... That was cool.

However, having said that, those pictures were shot with the Canon EOS digital SLR I got for my wife. She usually has a 28-80 zoom on it, even though she has some good lenses that she usually only uses when visiting nature reserves. She did get some great pictures "on safari" in South Africa and also of the pelicans fishing off the Florida Keys (Bahia Honda state park)

Very nice pics from two continents! I could tell you weren't a use-a-point-and-shoot-on-auto kind of guy.

Thanks again for sharing your UP pictures. It makes me want to go visit Muskallonge Lake State Park the next time I'm in MI. :)

For wildlife, the entry ticket used to be a 600mm F4 lens and a 1.4 and 2x magnifiers. But now if you get a 200 F2.8 or a 300 F2.8 (if you can afford it) together with a 1.4 and 2.0x matched magnifiers, it works very well with digital cameras that use a smaller chip than the original film size. She found she needed everything she could get in Africa and typically had on the 200 F2.8 and the 2x doubler.

She is a nurse in her "real" job. now the practise manager of an oncology clinic and right now recovering from her (own) second bout with cancer. Will probably be back at work in a few weeks,
