Quick weekend trip to the desert mountains

Postby desertmoose » Sun Jul 20, 2014 10:20 pm

We took a quick trip to the mountains. Didn't go down by the creek like we normally do because of thunderstorms and flash flood warnings. Set up near the summit of the road in instead. We did have rain/ hail every afternoon. Nice cool nights, and calm sunny mornings. Didn't have anyone drive by the whole time. Was real relaxing.

First night just after setting up. Clouds lit up by the sun setting behind us.

Right after a rain/hail storm. We sat under the canopy and watched it come down. Camera was inside the tear though, so didn't get pictures of the storm.

Ditto.
And a big thanks for the suggestion to go around it by way of Zenia. Took 2-1/2 hours and we came out below the roadblock 13 miles further down Hwy 36...
Still made the IRG fairly early. (around 1:30)

Others caught by it took the loop north to (149??) then over to Eureka and south on 101 to pick up the other end of 36, They were on the road hours longer than we were.

Thanks again.

Pretty photos. I'm glad you explained that the first shot was of a sunset and stormy clouds. It looked to be a fire on the horizon. (Well, yes...The sun is fire....)
