So last weekend I got together with some mates and went here:
https://www.google.co.nz/maps/@-43.2567232,172.4051189,12z

Bugger all there except a toilet and a tap

So we set up camp with our kids
Cooked a pig on the spit
Shot some cans
Set some possum traps
woke up to a frost. Here are some pics:

Looks more like a heavy frost to me. How did your sleep? Any trouble keeping warm?

Just curious since I expect to have big overnight temperature swings in the mountains at Poet Creek, too.

Hey KCStudly
It was a -6degC frost
Dunno what that is in deg F

Anyway

We were snug. I have polysturene in my walls
and fiberglass bats in my ceiling

Both windows were open and there was minimal condensation

I am excited to see how we go in the snow

That's 21.2 deg F, so not only freezing, but pretty cold. Glad you were snug.

So a couple of weekends ago I took my boy up to lake lyndon.
Lake Lyndon is a large Tarn/ Small Lake on the way to Arthur's Pass in the Southern Alps.

It is currently very low due to the droughts we are experiencing

When we arrived it was blowing a moderate NW wind which built to gale force gusts. (The solar panel was blown off my roof)
Over Night the wind was that strong the teardrop shifted slightly!

It was snug inside.

Inbetween gusts wee man and I looked for a bunny, it was too windy to fish

On Saturday Morn we woke to a nice calm morning, so went for a walk and shot a duck
(Entree for my friends that night)
We also set a dozen possum traps

We went fishing then the southerly hit.
Gale force, freezing wind

Woke up to sleet and a small amount of snow

Took the wee fella out and checked the traps.
Caught 1 possum which we plucked for his pocket money

We packed up, and went to the bealey hotel for lunch
Image

We were the only people there

Then drove home to stop in the snow for a bit

Here are some pictures, sorry I forget to take photos..

These are the days... These are the days that your boy will never forget. He will always love you and be grateful for the time that you are spending with him right now. Good parenting. I applaud you. :applause:

So next weekend I am taking the kids to Okains Bay
We will stay at this camp ground:
http://www.okainsbaycamp.co.nz/

There are about 10 dads and 25 kids going, so it should be fun.
Only 1 TD though :(

Weather was good

Ah, DB Double Browns. My favorite NZ beer. One very memorable thing from when I was in NZ was when a chap offered me one from his cooler at the NZ Grand Prix. We were sitting out on a grassy hill in the sun watching a little turbo charged Escort beat up on most all of the other "big" cars and the beer was so cold it had ice flakes in it. So sweet! (I've probably told this story before, but it is something that will probably stay with me forever!)
