Maine 2017 Trip

Postby WhitneyK » Mon Oct 16, 2017 1:01 pm

Greetings All :goodmorning:

It's been a while since I've posted.
We took two weeks and ventured up to Maine this past spring (2017). Below is a link to the pics I took using my phone (a few uploaded from my wife's camera or taken from our laptop screen).
We headed out from Indiana traveling through Ohio before stopping a Bushkill Falls in PA. From there we ventured up to our first campground at Portland, ME. Wild Duck CG  is a very peaceful place to camp, it is adults only (no it's not a nudist camp) camp ground with well maintained facilities, we highly recommend them. Traveled around the coast for a few days before heading to Acadia NP. There we spent time at Mt. Desert CG, again, large, but very well kept facility. Working our way up the coast visiting lighthouses and the such we stopped at Cobscook SP. Early in the year we booked a boat trip with Bold Coast Charters which found us 10 miles out in the ocean to an island where the Puffins and other sea birds nest. (we planned our trip around this) There are only 2 boats allowed to land on the island (one from US / one from Canada) and only 30 people a day. Landing on the island is strictly up to the captain and is weather dependent. When leaving the bay, he apologized that he had not been able to land on the island in over a week. :( I reminded him that I had a mother-in-law at home on her knees praying we did! :worship: Needless to say, we landed on the island! :applause: They escort you to a blind so that you can get close to the action and boy did we get some good shots. There is a lighthouse on the island that is manned by the Canadians. 2 men stay for 28 days before being "swapped out". There is a dispute over who actually owns the island though.
From there we went to Baxter SP. BEAUTIFUL place; no electric, no running water (except in the creeks), no internet, no phone service, no duel wheel trucks, nothing wider than 84". After going through the entrance gate, it's 8 miles (@ 20 mph limit) back a dirt & gravel road to our campsite :vroom:
On our way home we went through NY State :fb :x :frightened: cost me a small fortune because we took the toll road $> to hopefully save time. :NC Niagara Falls was a neat place, pricey, but neat.

Anyway, not much of a writer so here's the link to the pics: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/y51onp7vdu9isam/AABdnCZI0cueMhCw7TDOvb7Ba?dl=0

By the time we got home, we've drug our li'l camper over 25,000 miles now. It does not owe us a thing and has paid for itself many times over. We've saved a lot of money over the years using it, without it we would not be able to travel where we have.

Oh, one thing about camping on the extreme East Coast,..... the sun comes up around 4 am :goodnight:

Thanks Mike and the others who have created this helpful forum.
