AND THE WINNER IS.....

Postby doug hodder » Sun Sep 16, 2007 11:07 pm

A waffle cook off was held at the SLO gathering....those cooking brought out their best efforts, and the winner is! .........everyone that showed up and got something to eat!!!!.....I know that I had a good time and I'm sure that all the other "Chef's" did also. It really wasn't a contest....just have some fun and feed everyone....and we really had a variety of waffles....Ginger snap, blueberry, ice cream, chocolate hazelnut, and good old plain ones...a variety of toppings to include, real maple or blackberry syrup, whipped cream, home made syrups/ peanut butter for Gage and fresh fruit. I'm pretty sure no one went away hungry....thanks to everyone that cooked, and thanks to those of you that came by to eat it all up! What was the most fun I think is that we did it all on vintage iron and everyone had their own tricks on it. I will admit that it was a clean up issue on the stove however....Doug

Doug, I don't suppose there are any pics of the waffles for those of us that were truly unfortunate enough not to be there...we couldn't join y'all to eat 'em but we could sure enough drool over 'em :D :worship:

Matt! Thanks again for helping me join the cast iron waffle club...or should I say cult? I'll be making up some more waffles this weekend for sure. I can see a real a real diet problem on the horizon...

Doug,

Looks like you all had a great time.
I gotta tell you though, I couldn't stand not being there for the waffle cook off so I finally broke down and made my first waffles in the world famous Wagner today.. They turned out great. I forgot to take pics though.

I can vouch that the waffles were all really yummy. If anyone went away hungry it was because they had more will power than the rest of us not due to a lack of waffles.

Thanks to all the waffle cooks. :applause: :applause: :applause: Everyone seemed to have had a great time. I know I did.

I second what Martha said. The waffle off cooks attracted quite an admiring, hungry, crowd around them Saturday morning at the SLO Gathering. We all happily filled our bellies with delicious waffles and toppings. It was lots of fun and very yummy. :applause:

I want to say a special thanks to Lee, up all night serving a hot meal to the coons. Out and about, picking up a starter for Gage before most had gotten up. Then he made some mighty fine Waffles… Thank you lazy bones. :applause:

I don't know what was in that hot meal Lee was serving, but those coons just weren't acting the same the next night. :FNP

Paul....I was thinking about how much clean up on the stove I was going to have to do...did learn a lot about using buttermilk in the mix rather than regular milk or water. I had some "flowage" issues. When you are trying to crank out a bunch in a hurry, sometimes things get a bit messy....

Dean, I was trying to choose words that wouldn’t make everyone sick.

Paul, he had a turkey sub from Ralfs early in the day, must have had some bad mayonnaise.

All I am trying to say is a thank you to Lee for the Great waffles after a very bad night, and early morning. :applause:
