DO lid holder and Square Griddle

I found a DO lid holder at Wally World (opens up to an X). I paid $10. Do any of you use these? Is it worth $10?

I also found a square griddle with sides like a frying pan. Are these worth having? Is it worth $16? What can I do with it?

My dutch oven lid holder........

Had four of them waiting at the curb on a tossed out gas stove waiting for the trash man.

Total cost zero.

P.S. also turns any flat bottomed pan into a camp oven by adding room for the coals under the pan.

P.S.S. a length of heavy chain around a domed lid will allow you to place coals on top for an extra dutch oven.

As to a griddle they are great for a large frying surface . If you are feeding a large group of folks it allows you to get multiple servings done together. I have found with just the two of us it is not really a need to have item. Remember you can always use the Dutch oven lid also.

Yes they are worth the $ i've got 3 of the DO holders and never use them made my own does the griddle have handle like skillet and about 12'' square if so yes its worth 16$ or if its a griddle flat and about 15'' x 8'' i would pay that for it also. maybe i just need to ruin to wallet world today and go to lowes and get me lots of char coal heard its on sale :lol: :lol: :lol:

bobhenry- Your idea looks more stable than the X one that I got that could close on itself!!! When I first bought it I thought it was for "legs" for the DO's that don't have legs! After I looked it up is when I found out it was a lid holder! I think I'm going to return it and get my $10 back. I think the gas oven grate thing looks way more stable, and like you said it is absolutely cheaper!!! Thanks for that idea!!!

bctoys- Yes, it is the skillet with the handle like a frying pan that is about 12"x12". I thought the price was good too, except I am having trouble figuring out what I would use it for. Like bobhenry said about the DO lid... If I could use the lid just like the 12"x12" skillet then I would just do that , UNLESS someone has better ideas for that skillet!!!

YARD SALE FINDS- I also got a little oval frying pan. It looks like something a restaurant would serve you fajitas on (you know, when they bring it to the table sizzling?). And I got a flat square with a little bit of lip around it (maybe for making sandwiches like grilled cheese?). I also got some things that look almost like candy molds. One has like corn looking loave slots (I think it is for cornbread, but it would make skinny sticks of bread). The other ones are different designs and shapes. I think I got like 7 different things, all from a yard sale. I paid 1 buck for each, so I can afford to keep them and FIND something to do with them!

well i love my sq skillet 12x12 cook eggs and bacon on it in the mornings camping and pancakes. Yes the corn bread pan makes skinny bread sticks but they are good :lol: :lol: Great finds at yard sales.

My square skillet has "grill" type ribs running across it. I guess it would be good for putting grill marks on your meat, but I can't think of anything else. I guess if you want grill marks on your food you could just put it on a grill. That's why I can't think of anything to do with it. :oops:

Oh, and I decided I would just keep the "X" lid holder because I got to thinking it would be slightly easier to travel with, and it will take me a bit to find the stove grate. But if it doesn't do well I will go to the gas stove grate thing.

I have two lid rests and use both of them. I put the DO lid on one when stirring or checking. The other one I use to boost up another legless DO up for outdoor cooking.

I have the same pan,it is not for putting grille marks on the meat,it is a broiler pan.I heat mine on the stove for like 10 mins til it starts to smoke,spray it with some cooking spray and drop in the steaks.i get NY strip steaks at weagman's about 3/4 pound each,1 1/2" thick,cook on each side for round 3-4 mins,perfect mid rare and juicy as the whole piece of meat is not touching the pan surface
