Found at thrift store, but what is it?

I found a 1 qt cast iron pot (made in U.S.A. and 1 QT on the bottom, 1 on the inside of the lid) with a lid that has 4 holes in the top. The holes are big enough to fit my finger in it. It doesn't look old. It has 2 solid tabs for handles and a solid half circle tab on the lid (to lift the lid with). I paid $4.00 for it because it was cute, but what the heck is it? I am at the hospital and have no access to a camera, so no pics yet. I have tried searching the net, but can't find a pic of it anywhere. Thanks! :)

It may be for putting water in and setting on the stove to allow for humidity (wood stove topper) in a room. :R
There are many different designs, some are figures, but post a pic when you can. TDN

My husband and I were thinking potpourri (possibly), but what a heavy container for something as nothing as potpourri. It is so small that the water it could hold to humidify the air wouldn't be worth the effort of repeatedly filling the container. I'll try to borrow a camera. Thanks

Here's another pic of the pot, but the soda can makes it look smaller than it really is in real time.

I did a search for cast iron garlic roaster (cuz I thought that was a possibility). The garlic roasters have a shallow bottom and a volcano looking top. This is going to drive me CRAZY!

Sure does look like it would serve the same purpose, but why can't I find a picture of the one I have anywhere? If mine is so old they don't have a pic of it, then it is in MINT condition. But if mine is a newer piece, then why can't I find a pic of it anywhere?

We thought about that too but we kind of thought 1 quart of a heavy cast iron pot was over kill for a small cone of incense!? Mine can't be the only one out there can it? All ideas are very welcome and needed!

Are the holes in the lid cast in place by the OEM, or were they drilled in after the fact? If drilled it could indicate that it was somebodies modification and could have been done for any number of reasons, such as the wood stove humidifier. They make some pretty small wood stoves.

It appears to be made that way because the holes inside the lid are slightly bigger on the inside of the lid, going to ever so slightly smaller on the outside of the lid (like tapered). And, you can see the bumpy cast iron imperfections. It looks too original to me. Plus there is a very slight ridge that appears to be from the casting and looks like it needed a little more sanding to make it smoother (but it is all consistent imperfections). But when I first saw it in the thrift store I thought someone had drilled the holes until I picked it up and looked closer.

We used to heat strictly by wood. We had different types and sizes of stoves. This thing is too small for that. You'd have to refill it every hour or two. Even with our smallest stove (the small potbelly size you saw in the old trains) we used the cast iron teapot and we STILL had to refill it way too much.

Maybe it is a smoker pot that you fill with wood chips and set in a gas grill
