Lodge 12" Shallow for $41.30 on Amazon

Postby 8 » Sat Oct 08, 2016 7:35 pm

On sale now. Lodge 12" Shallow for $41.30 on Amazon.

I love a good deal. I am looking for a 10" and I can get a 12" for less. So, do I pay more for a smaller pot? Such conflict in my brain.

I say buy the DO that you want. You are going to have it for a long time, hopefully. My first DO was a new 10 CO, All of the rest have been DCO's. You can haul a small load on a big truck but you can't haul a big load on a small truck. Really I prefer DCO's because it gives me more options when cooking in a stack.

Yep Dave said it all......."You can haul a small load on a big truck but you can't haul a big load on a small truck."

I lean towards the bigger of my dutch ovens when needed. I have learned if you want heat up close as when baking, a big chicken fryer type skillet with a dutch oven camp lid works great.

What you are not understanding is that Dutch ovens or camp ovens are like tools, guns, women's shoes, guitars, and sharpies. There is no bad reason for buying another one and you can't have too many. I never use just one at a time and am always happy when I have one that is just the right size. Now that there is a good deal happening on the shallow ones I have no reason not to increase the collection.

I just have to say I have the sickness! I just ordered four, YES FOUR, DOs from Wallyworld in the last three weeks. What the hell am I going to do with two 10" and two 12" DOs? I've used three of the four so far. Gawd, I got it bad!

And another warning about getting into this DO thing... I'm hiking a riverside trail near me last week and I come across an old farm dump in the woods. I spot this thing on top of the pile of discarded crap and think, "Oh, wouldn't that make a nice DO table". So, I carry it about a mile through the woods to my car hoping I don't run into anyone I know.

Well, with a hog pan under the DO it actually works pretty well. I don't have a cluse what it was in its previous life. Its legs have spots for two fixed rear wheels and two swivel wheels up front and it folds flat which makes it easy to haul for a camp DO table. What a sicko I've become!

You're not sick, you're in recovery from Dutch Oven Deficit Disorder (DODD) and its companion symptom Low-Fe (Low iron). Buy two pieces of iron and call me in the morning.

I thought it was a vintage shopping cart. So I checked. Sure enough. You may want to rethink the DO table.

Hmmm... if I could touch it up and find some baskets I could buy eight more DOs!

Well, a couple weeks later and it was still taunting me by staying on sale. So, it showed up at my door on Friday. I could not resist the deal. As of today, the price is back up to $53.
