I was looking at these beautiful cruisers from Ridley http://www.ridleymotorcycle.com/motorbike/ there powered and was thinking of maybe buying one until I saw the price. Well they buy there bikes from felt http://feltracing.com/08/thumb.asp?catid=1504,1519 and I think I would rather peddle for the price. They are adding almost $2000.00 for a motor and bladder tank to a bicycle you can buy for about $400.00.

With a gas powered motor attached will it need a license plate to ride on the street? I was at the local Best Buy last night, and looked at an electric powered bicycle. It didn't have the vintage styling, but the price was under $500. An extra battery pack could be added. With an electric motor, it was still considered a bicycle.

In Minnesota, an electric-assisted bicycle is still a bicycle (as long as the motor won't propel you over 20 mph on flat terrain).

Gas-powered bicycles, however, are basically considered mo-peds or scooters. They have to have lights, horn, license, etc.

Your state's mileage may vary ;)

I ended up buying a 1945 Columbia cruiser from a local Sisters on the Fly member that needs a total restoration. It looks like this bike

  that's the kind my wife wanted, but I got her a 14 speed instead. She was worried about the skinny tires and the shifting and brakes -- you know -- pretty much everything (I think it's a gender thing  ), but she's getting used to it. If you don't have any hill to speak of a single speed can be a great ride -- hope you enjoy it!

Thank you! I will definitely check them out. I've got an old cruiser I want to fix up.

They make the motor kits for any bike. There are a few places you can get the kits. Some i have seen have options for chrome parts and tanks. Or painted. So you can dress them up better than shown in this link.
