while bigger wheels have an advantage off road. There have been proponents of smaller wheels on road. hmm I think it was Alex Moulton that thought a [I forget the exact size.. maybe 22"] was the most efficient. Looking at rolling resistance vs wind resistance.

I also don't remember what they were trying to call the sport.. but I think it was during the mid 80's

They were building adult sized 20" wheeled bikes.. and they were setting up courses in parking lots. John Howard had one available with fairing even.

These things would crank.. with the smaller wheels they also accelerated quite nicely
