Recumbent Trikes

Postby ValerieP » Mon Aug 05, 2013 9:25 am

One of the major reasons we decided to convert a cargo hauler verses buying a tear drop ( we aren't builders  ) was to haul our recumbent trikes- so anyone else riding these!?
Well my pic is too big, so I will resize and upload later!

One trike, two short wheelbase recumbents here. Coming to the Recumbent Retreat? www.recumbentretreat.org

I wish! Currently we live on the left coast and I teach, so I will have to retire before we will be able to attend that one. BUT- we do plan to attend Tater ToT next year!

You're not mixing it up with the Midwest Recumbent Rally are you? The Retreat is on the Oregon coast near Astoria in two weeks.

Again, I wish- this year we are on a holding pattern while we get our cargo trailer purchased. Next summer the plan is to head west the beginning of June and return the middle of August!
Are you headed for the Midwest Rally? It sure sounds like it will be fun!

I'm afraid the Midwest one isn't in the cards unless I suddenly become independently wealthy :). I've wanted to go to Tater TOT for years now, but the timing just never seems to work. Oh well, just 22 1/2 years to retirement.

I have a couple of MASA Slingshots but they need a trailer of their own  I had a KMX R/T but I sold it.

Part of the reason we went with a cargo trailer, was also for our bikes. I prefer to haul ours inside, although we are still using, what some recumbent riders call wedgie bikes.

We do have a recumbent on our want list. We have gotten to ride a Greenspeed tandem recumbent trike, and loved it. Although to haul that, I will either need a new trailer, or to haul it on the roof...

We also call them "up-wrongs"
It's good to see more people being tempted by the dork side.

I figure we will get one when we get old.   8) 8)

Right now we are really into mountain biking... so the wedgie bikes are our option at the moment.

...and there are recumbent two wheel mountain bikes, and I know of folks who have ridden more than 60 miles of trails on them, but uprights are still the best for maneuverability!

I have ridden a recumbent mountain bike.. but I have found them not the best choice for East Coast.. tight, twisty, rocky, and rooty single track...

I've been riding a short wheelbase under seat steering recumbent since 2001. I don't ride as much as I'd like these days due to a serious back injury but plan to be back to it by summer.
