Quilting Bee anyone?

Postby Miriam C. » Sun Dec 17, 2006 11:54 am

We need a place to show off the quilts. I'll start, this is my Red Swan quilt made for my Teardrop. It is just a top and still needs to be quilted. Winter fun. 8)

The small swans are 8"x8" and the large is 16"x16". The quilt measures 82" square and is a perfect fit for the bed area.

Love the swans. Is there any significants to the swans. My quilt is still rolling around my thoughts. Iv'e collected a whole lot of travel themed fabric. Not sure what pattern maybe attic windows. I also want a bunch of throw pillows. I did use some of the licence plate fabric for the curtains.

:o Mary, Attic Windows with travel fabric will be pretty. No significance to swans I just like them. When the Swan Lake Barbie came out I bought all the grandaughters one and made my oldest grandaughter a blue and white with the swans. Hers is a diamond pattern and is very nice. :D

Can't wait to see yours posted here. ;)

Miriam...here's what I've done for the Rocketear...lower right on the gray is the American flag on a pole...I have all the planet names quilted into it, rocketships, aliens, and some of the more famous quotes from the space program, even Neil Armstrongs boot print...Doug

What I was amazed to find out is how much a quilt can be worth.
My mother-in-law is very good at quilting. She took one in to have the quilting? done (is that where they sew in the pattern). The lady offered her $3K for it. That was about 5 years ago. It was a gift she was making for my daughter so she declined.

I told her she should have sold it.

Hi Miriam,

Your quilt is absolutely beautiful! I'm envious of your skills.

I'm just finishing the top to my first-ever quilt. It's just random blocks but I really needed the sewing practice. I have some beautiful frabric for a future quilt, but I'm going to do at least one more (probably the Dawg quilt) before I start cutting into that fabric.

I'm fortunate to have a friend who has a long-arm quilting machine at his house. I have the back almost put together and the batting is sitting in a chair right next to me. I just have to take the time to finish it. I'll post a picture of the top in the next day or so.

Joanne

Hey Doug,

Those aren't real pictures on your quilt!! They were taken at some super secret sound stage..... Ooops. Wrong forum. I should be posting that one on the Foil Hat forum.

Your quilt is just perfect for your trailer. It's really going to complement and tie together the whole Rocketear theme.

:applause: That is nice to hear. I sure wish I had a friend with a machine. Mine will be hand quited if I ever find a material to make a back with.

If not I will be making another real fast.

TDN said, "No", to the idea of me buying a sewing machine and something about obsessive compulsive or something along those lines...
Only caught part of it, 'cause I was thinking about all the cool awnings and side enclosures that I could do for the tear with one.
