Here's Olga packing it up for the first trip in our Camp-Inn. Its 20 degrees out. She is truly a Lady Teardropper!

Actually, it dropped down to 15 degrees on our second night out while in the Columbia River Gorge. Our TD has a built in 16,000 BTU furnace so we were quite comfortable. That is until having to open the door in the middle of the night to go potty. That was a real shock! It quickly jumped from 70 degrees to 15 degrees inside.

Olga *almost* got bewildered at that. The furnace warmed it up almost immediately after closing the door. Life is good...

Just a question for the subfreezing teardroppers.

Does your food or water freeze in the galley when the hatch is closed or is there enough radiant heat from the inner galley wall to keep it from freezing?

I always make sure there is no water in the water system. We've never had food freeze in the galley because we put our food in the icebox with no ice and the insulation keeps the freezing cold out (so far). Olga has cooked up some great meals in sub freezing weather but we do end up eating in cafes sometimes. This winter, we plan to camp above 8000 ft. in the Cascade Mountains during a snow storm just to be able to say we did it. Our built in furnace will be put to use then for sure....

When it gets below freezing I try to stay inside. Unless there is a real good reason to be out.

Maybe we need a Lady Polar Bear sticker for those who brave the winter weather.

Yah, those furnaces are great....

Scared the heck outta me the first time I tried it.....
thought I turned it off after warming it up before night time..

LOL... 3:00 in the morning VaaaaRooommmmm.....
Like a jet engine outside.. (and inside eh?)
Almost jumped and hit my head on the ceiling.. but didn't

Turns out, I only set the Thermostate to a low temp instead of turning off...
I thougth it was "...a lift off.." in which case "...Houston?... I think we might have a problem here..."

But, boy it sure does the job, no Problemo...
Heading up to Deception Pass this coming weekend.. chilly, but not the snow you're looking for..
kewl little campers... and they're sooooo Cute.... LOL

ps. yes, I hear you on the Midnight door opener... yikes... like jumping from a jacuzzi into the snow... only feels good for about 10 seconds..

John, don't know for absolute use but I believe they use one of these furnaces...I believe that Mike uses similar in his build(L'il Diner, ect)

View Pic: Unfortnately, the heater unit is locked inside the front part of the TD. It's a convection? heater (knowing that I don't know what I'm talking about here ) Propane fueled and heats up an exchanger that blows into the cabin, with a roar I might add.

So, no need to crack a window, but I do anyway. Thing is so good, it heats up in about 5 minutes..


Power, not a clue on the power usage, just a fan when on. Auto ignitor...

The heater is a Suburban Dynatrail NT-16SE. It draws about 3.5 amps. There is no need to vent the interior but we pretty much have to because it gets VERY hot inside...quickly.
As fpoole says, its quite noisy but it sure feels good while winter camping. Especially just as we are going to bed and when its time to wake up and get dressed.
