Took the barn for a road trip.

Got this shot of the happy camper.



Even hot cinnimon rolls piping hot out of the Dutch oven couldn't get a smile.

Gives a whole new perspective on the age old question.........

Bobhenry, I was wondering, What was your final weight? Finished height? Could this be scaled down a bit more/lighter? And lastly(For now) What is this let in bracing you speak of? Thanks.

Sorry out of state all weekend and out of touch. Best guess trailer is 1200 lbs. It pulls easily with my 4 cylinder Suzuki Esteem. Inside height is 5'4" Barn is exactly 5 wide by 10 long. If you follow the thread all the way back you can see that every effort was made to cut the wood members to what I felt was minimal size without giving away the necessary strength. The let in bracing is a wood member glued and screwed in a grove plowed in the vertical members to tringulate for extra strength.









As to scaling down weight wise I don't think it would be possible to build much lighter without losing a great deal of strength. The roof is aluminum coil stock over 3/8 plywood then 2 layers of 3/4 foam in the cavaties and 1/4 luan interior liner over the bones. I lifted the entire roof framing onto the barn side walls by myself before adding the aluminum. It is designed as light as I dared. The framing 2x4 were cut down to 1 1/8" by 2 1/2 " actual size. If you are talking about scaling down size yes 4x8x4 tall would still give you the exact same barn look. Perhaps a mock equipment sidewall door for entry instead of the rear entry as I have.

Hi Bob that's no prob about being away, I don't expect everyone's going to reply immediately. Some of these threads are old. When you say 5'4 your meaning to the peak eh? That is what size I'd perfer. However my cars only rated to tow 1000lbs. Is it possible to go 5 tall by 5 wide by 8 long? If I get a bigger TV I'm building this or a tumbleweed knock-off. Thanks for the info.

You are far ahead of us being rated at 1000 lbs. The Scion XB and the Suzuki Esteem are " NOT RATED TO TOW" had to have drawtite custom make both hitches ( takes about 4 weeks) . While I wouldn't take a cross country trip with them the Scion has towed Chubby my other tear 400 miles to my mothers and another 400 back home and he weighs even more than the barn. For local camping we will hook up to the cars but 3-4 day gatherings across the state we will now take my new dodge pickup simply because there is more cargo space.

As to towing we truely enjoy the roads less traveled and plan our route so we can enjoy the by ways of the state. We are just not in that big a hurry and will stop at will, be it garage sale, flea market ,or road side cafe. Keeping the speed down when towing will allow you to tow with a smaller vehicle. I truely hate our interstates and find the secondary roads much more relaxing. Build to your own tastes not someone elses Hell I am the only damn fool with a barn but the 1st outing we had 42 visitors wanting a look it was crazy. So Build what you dream !

Looks like a fun and less-conventional build, thoroughly thought out, a huge kitchen for serious cooking on a truly tiny trailer. One thought from me? The light on the galley might be better closer to the hinge, or better yet, under that clever spice rack, so the cook won't always be blocking his/her own light and casting a shadow on the counter top, come dark.
