Why couldn't a 20 foot open top shipping container be turned on it's side to build a tiny home ?Oddly enough the weight of a container that is open topped is qoted as the same as full top container.Swing open the doors at the ends to make small covered porch.I know 8'6 is standard height so would still be legal to move if on trailer.Give one open side for windows, doors without needing to use a welder to cut openings.Thoughts?

Some times they even use them on their side.

The DO make them as a single side load and a double side load as in this pic.

People have been building homes from shipping containers for a long time. My husband and I have even toyed with the idea. There are a lot of "green" companies out there that are very into it as a way to "recycle, reuse and repurpose" and cut down on the resources used in the building of homes. Check out this site for some interesting ideas, everything from a one container cottage to elaborate apartment and office buildings built with many containers.

here in Groningen, Holland they use them to house students. They all have their own shower, toilet and kitchen, and are cheaper to rent compared to an appartment.
