Damn, I was trying to quote just the "off the wall" part.

I have been scratching my head all day with regard to what hidden humor was in that statement.

I think it finally sunk in. My roof trusses ~ and the term off the wall.

Well I think I got the connection roof trusses ARE off the wall. Well actually they rest ON THE WALL. But I think the light finally went on

My ace helper (one of my boy's) and I got the windows in after they showed up this morning. We got quite a rain storm early but we weren't deterred. All in all it went pretty smoothly. I did have to make some fillers for the upper side awning windows. I had made the openings too big.
At the risk of sounding cheap, I'll tell you a story. I had about half of a five pound box of nails and figured I'd be good. Well these windows wanted alot of nails and I was getting worried. I didn't want to run to the store until I had to so I kept going. It got down to the last window and I counted the holes and then counted the nails....one short. I had dropped one so I asked my boy to look...no luck. I found one I had bent in my pouch, hammered it straight and finished the job with an empty box. We had a good laugh at that.
BTW my goal is to use up as much of my basement full of surplus as possible. Less to move or get rid of that way

We've been pretty busy lately, just not on the tiny house. Family first, right? I've been wanting to get the door in, but had to do some other things first. As is my habit (not intentional) I made the opening too tall, so I needed to shrink that first which is not as easy as you'd think due to many other factors. Using 1/2" subfloor was not the hot setup. It flexes too much on 24" centers. The seams are all high. Must be the adhesive I used. I decided to cover the whole thing with 1/4 ply after sanding the seams. So I got the two sheets on the door end in then shimmed the top of the door opening. Because it's already sided with t1-11 I needed to add a piece of siding which would be really noticable. I figured the top could use a dripedge and the z bar flashing (used for horizontal joints on t1-11) was a couple inches above the resized opening. I cut up some fascia and made a kick plate under the door and flashing above with the top tucked behind the z bar. Hopefully you can see all that in the pics. Locksets go in today along with loft construction.
Thanks for reading

I was noticing a couple days ago your windows all have built in J channel for vinyl. You might consider a halo of 1 x 4 frame around each window. I also noticed the 2x5 tall windows are almost into the eves perhaps a single 1x4 running as final trim at the top of the windows and have the window side trim bump the continuious top trim.

Also what stops you from covering the z strip on the gable with 1x4 cedar trim also. I have done this often on mini barns. It helps if you angle cut the top to allow the rain to drain away from the t 111.

Last I see you have the entire bottom wall plate showing so you might investigate insulated zip panel. It is a fiber glass faced 7/16 or 1/2 hi test OSB that has a fiber glass stranded insulation bat fused to its backside. The foam will crush only slightly where your hi spots are and you will have an insulated free floating sub floor. Perhaps some click lock flooring and you are good to go.
P.S. I have done similar with blue foam sheets and standard osb. You will never feel the floor flex again.

See how the sheet break is concealed on the gable end and how the window is wrapped this is what I was trying to explain.

Let me go looking for my floor "TILES"

Image

Here is a sliver cut and laid on it's side for a better view.

Image

R value rated at 6.6 notice the wall plate almost planes out with the top of the New subfloor

This little addition sure made my cold hard to clean concrete floor a thing of the past.

Bob,
Here are two pics from last years quilt studio project where I used the same windows. Rough 1x4 was used to trim. If you zoom in on the side view you can see where I removed material to allow for the nail fin. This building has solid stain on it which covered the z flashing nicely. The stain on the tiny house does not cover it well but it was never my intention to hide it. It serves a purpose and I don't think it's unsightly. All of the tiny house windows will be seal taped and trimmed, but that can happen later...more pressing jobs to be done.

I hadn't considered an insulated panel over the sub floor. The floor system is very well insulated and when finished will be covered with thin v joint in the living room, cork in the kitchen, and pennies covered with epoxy in the bath. My wife is an artist and the penny idea was hers. It should look cool and at the very least a heck of a conversation piece.

With short wall height, it was a challenge to keep the windows high but not interfere with other aspects. I am tall so they accomodate my line of sight when inside. Trimming them won't be easy, but it seems everything about this build makes one think about every aspect over and over. This is so unlike traditional house building. I'm sure folks reading this have noticed that it's very much a free form build. We make decisions and changes often based on how things are flowing. So far I think it is coming together amazingly well. If you read the blogs and watch the videos on tiny house building, you see no two folks do anything the same.
Thanks for reading and interacting.

It turns out that the rain we got today was timed perfectly to coincide with getting the loft built. It went together pretty smoothly. After the platform was in place I was able to build a support wall for the leading end of the shed dormer and get that opening closed in. What a relief that is! I installed the lockset in the door and my ace helper finished up the staining. As usual, we had just enough. With the need to buy more stain for trim, it was a good time to talk about putting some color in the project. We decided to match the trim to the roof metal. Fingers crossed that it looks good. My wife assures me that it will. The humidity has been crazy so i'm not working very fast , but it's coming together nicely i think.

Boy the weather has cooled off a bunch. Mid 70's for most of the 14 day forecast. It sure is nice to work in. We are still getting rain fairly regular. El Nino is having his way with us.
I've been working on the roof for the last few days. I am almost done with it. One mis-cut on the rake trim meant having to order another piece. It'll be here next week and then the roof will be all wrapped up.
Next up...exterior trim.

...and then there was a porch There was just enough treated 2x lumber left from the trailer deck to frame up this sweet 5x8 foot porch and steps. Let me just say that making stairs is NOT my strong suit, but I lucked my way into a short set that aren't too bad. They are level anyways We made a store run today and got some deck boards and solid color stain for the porch and house trim. They will match the roof color and hopefully look pretty sharp.
I also got the wedge shape siding pieces that go on the end of the dormers stained and installed. All in all, not a bad day.
Thanks for reading.

It's been a few days since I posted an update, so although there isn't too much to see...
It seems like we've been busy with just about everything but the tiny house. That usually happens mid project. There's a little lul then you hit it hard to finish.
I picked up the metal rake trim piece I had ordered this week and got that installed on the front gable. So now all the metal is done. My son and I ripped the trim and he put the first coat of stain on it and the porch. Then I got started on trimming. I haven't gotten too far yet but i'll share a pic of the end. The last piece I put on was over the z strip that seperates the t1-11. After reading bobhenry's suggestion I decided to give it a try and I really like how it looks. Thanks Bob

I believe it's 7'4". It's been awhile since I measured it. The last piece of trim was nailed on today. My bride will be second coating the trim tomorrow. Then we are on to insulation and wiring.
