I put some gas in it and fired it up but it stunk the whole garage up with fumes so I shut it off and put it up in the attic until I found this thread. Probably needs a good cleaning........

Jeff

All it needs is a good cleaning, then take it out and light her up and let it burn for a while. It'll work good after that.

Hiker Chick....yup...you should see if you can get that equipment! Doug

Looks like you built yourself a wooden lantern holder that I see in your teardrop. Nice project. I made one as well to house my coleman lantern.

Thanks Mark....I still have some of that mahogany from the other projects, siding on my 1st and 2nd tears. Enough to make a couple of boxes for the smaller 242 lanterns. Mahogany always makes the best equipment storage boxes. Most of the old scientific equipment, surveying, geological etc... that I've seen comes in them.

Cherokee Geo, got his lantern, a vintage military one...darn guy...he went camping with it this weekend..but promises some pics of it when he gets back. It's about a 1975 Coleman Military lantern, unlit I think....what a find, and matches his new Jeep! Doug

John, that is pretty cool!! Is the Tonka sticker the "real deal" or do you think somebody stuck it on there?

I made mine out of plywood. It's a lttle heavy duty. Nice project though. It keeps the vintage Coleman protected.

John...maybe some others can help you out. Rainjer and myself are mostly into the lanterns and stoves, and haven't played with any of the catalytic heaters. I'd think that some surfing on the net could provide you some info. however.

Jeff....Tonka did manufacture some stuff other than trucks...I'm thinking they did do some gas pressure appliances, but can't come up with pics right now.

Mark...nice box!!! great to see others building something like that to take care of a lantern, might sound dumb to some people, but it'll keep it in pristine shape for years to come! Doug

It's the real deal. Made in Toronto ,Canada. Don't know the date, but I did surf the net but couln't come up with any info. I did see one that was new somewhere in the states that sold to someone in Holland for around $50.00 I think.....

My rainy/snowy day find:

Image

Looks like it was used once but I can't smell any gas in the tank. The shipping sticker on the bottom of the box says Nov 81. $14.99 new at KMart back in the day.

Also picked up a Wagner waffle iron for $8. They also have a Griswold "Bolo" camp oven meant to sit on top of a stove. The guy selling it didn't put a price on it so the antique mall operator has to get that from him. Of course now that he knows I'm interested I'm sure he'll ask market price or better. I'll have to research that one.
