Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Schwinn Typhoon here...single speed...bendix brakes. I can still remember my Grandma taking my brother and I out to the Schwinn store to get bikes. Boy...there were some shiney modles there...but we were real happy to get those Typhoons.

Typhoons were bullet proof...had that double under tube on the upper frame member as I recall. The newspapers kid bike of choice in Anchorage. I'm thinking that as well as the smaller bike, they had a model that was a 26" with long double tubes, nearly horizontal as well. The Sullivan kids all had one. Doug

Like this one:

The first time I rode my Stingray I crashed into the front tire of a 1970 Mustang Mach I and flew over the hood. Neither the car, bike or myself was hurt.

Had one like that in the late 60's/early 70's. That would have been pre- car years! Last I saw it it was in pieces in the attic of my dad's garage. Might still be there for all I know. More likely than not it's been scrapped by now tho. Too bad too, I liked that bike!!

Yeah, that's probably why I was so skinny (125#) then, pumping all that iron  Danny

Speaking of Continental's and LeTour's...my wife is a garage sale bike junkie...before the Sear's Spaceliner, she bought a pair of his and hers Schwinn Suburban's. I think these were three speeds and pretty smooth crusiers as I remember...

It's interesting to see those Stingrays - I'd like to know whether our Raleigh Choppers (cooler name?) were copied from the Stingray or the other way round.

The Chopper had a T-handle shifter set in a 'dash panel' on the frame top tube - how cool was that?

Andrew,
I've got a Raliegh hangin' n my garage... It's a TEAM used it when I raced centuries. Paid 2K for it back in the 80s, although it's a great piece, it's now pretty much antiquated compared to todays racing bikes.

Andrew, this video explains they outlawed shifters in the USA around 1970. What is the time line of those bike you posted? Maybe that video or one of the other 14 videos will explain it more fully. :D Danny

I missed the Pea Picker....and I thought I went through them all...
I asked Grant if he had redline tires on his and Andrew put up a pic that had redlines on it. Talk about a stupid thing to have stored somewhere in my brain....Doug

Didn't they have an ad campaign on TV for them? Maybe I'm thinking of something else...the name does stick for some reason. Doug
