I need stove help

Postby Woodbutcher » Fri Dec 28, 2012 4:18 pm

I just picked up this stove. It seems to be a marriage of 2 stoves. The tank is in real good condition and seems to work. But it is a Preway. But it fits the slots in the stove and generator lines up. The tank will not fit into the stove to close it up. The box is a Sears model 742-618 .

Anyone know what this is?

Is the braze job on the tank valve to tank joint factory? Looks a little suspicious in the photos. Maybe the tank rusted out on the Sears and they adapted the tank that they had on hand?

I have zero experience with either stove, so be kind to me if I am way out to lunch.

Slow, I was hoping you could tell me. If it is a marriage it all fits together, except I can not get the tank to store in the stove box.
KC, the tank has a fitting with threading for the valve, there is no braising on the tank. It holds pressure. But I am not sure I want to light it?

So am I seeing the braze where the threaded bung is attached to the tank?

In the pics it looks like there are some beads of solder there that aren't painted, which is what is leading me to believe that someone has done a mod. Is that joint factory in your opinion?

If it holds pressure I'd say, why not light it up?

Still a nice stove.

Looks like an AGM stove which was a preway. Fire it up should work just fine. just my humble opinion. Most of the AGM stoves I have has a big ole thing on the generator. But not all.

Mike, you make me laugh and afraid at the same time. I will have to wait till spring to find a lake with sand. We are frozen in. Maybe after the New Year I will give it a try out in the shop with a fire extinguisher handy!

Here is a pic of this stove it is a preway 418p. Sears commissioned other companies to build their products. I am guessing a replacement tank was ordered at some point in time.

You could take the model number to Sears and order replacement parts.

That some point in time most definitely would have a long time ago.. When it was actually possible.
