Stove for the new trailer (painted)

Postby doug hodder » Sun Jun 23, 2013 4:12 pm

I got this one from my "secret pickers" It's a Topton 28. I believe that this was the precursor to Caloric. The porcelain is in perfect condition. I pulled the burner tops and grates, boiled them in citric acid and put some new paint on them. I think that someone along the way, shot it with engine block enamel. It looks just like the Model 1 top that I did. I'm going to sand the top down and spray it with Daytona yellow engine block paint. The legs also have holes in them like there was maybe a foot or it was bolted into a trailer at one time. I'm going to use it as a portable, so will make up some valances to go on the sides and front or at least make up some sort of a more noticeable foot for it. I think it will make a perfect addition to the new build. Doug

from Batman (1989) I can never find anything like that, whether for trailers or cars...I end up buying new, when I prefer "old school" equipment.

Yes...I put it on the stove and boiled it...it really speeds up the whole process. maybe 30 min, hit it with some steel wool, heated the parts to dry off and painted. Doug

I'm not married so I can cook whatever I want in the kitchen....now that I think of it...boiled cast iron in citric acid might have been better than when she actually did cook! I chose poorly. Doug

I recently placed an order for some Clear Jel for canning pie filling this fall, had to order a couple of more dollars to get free shipping. I ordered Citric Acid. I think that I am going to save it for my lanterns and stoves if it works that good. The Citric Acid that is, not the Clear Jel. 8)

Sanded down the existing paint, sprayed it with Duplicolor engine block enamel. Daytona yellow, and it's good for 500F, I also got a 1gal. propane tank, new hose and regulator. I'm cookin' now! The purpose of this stove is primarily for outdoor cooking as I don't like to cook in a trailer. I'll heat up certain things, but the idea of frying up a load of bacon inside is just out with me. Too much grease in the air to get into the fabrics and on the wall. Doug
