Just so nobody takes my idea I am posting it first. It would be only fitting that the leader of the 200a gang have a Harley Davidson themed stove. I was going to do it last contest but just could not gitter done.

Full harley orange with a big wing sticker and old school cream and black one shot pinstriping 8) .

I wont even have to light it because it will already be so hot!

Now you've done it! You went and gave up your theme before the unveiling. Even though we had two similar stoves last year, It was kind of cool not knowing what was going to show up. The funny thing was that Eric emailed me to let me know he could only think to do one up as a suitcase with travel stickers two days before the first one was submitted. so three people were thinking the same thing. It is the execution that makes the difference. As far as prizes go, I'll leave it up to the committee. If we want to go for just bragging rights, then the winner should add something to the effect of "2nd Annual Custom Stove Contest Winner" to their signature line.

Kirk....you announced what you were going to do, why? Think we should have to show a photo of the stove actually working...did we do that last year?

I was under the impression that I would have a trailer done by June last time, so didn't have the time to put in on a stove last go around. Now, it's just gonna sit in the garage through the winter while I take my time and detail it, so I've got some time now and I've got a number of stoves to pick from. And...I just cooked up a great idea. Doug

PS...Kirk...do you carry a fairly full line of One Shot?

The rules from last year :

Ok. Let's see what you all think of this. Two burner stoves (common 413/425) only? Any custom design as long as the stove can still be opened and closed as designed. Must be a working stove. one suggestion was to cook something and post picture of cooked food, but I am inclined to just go with a picture of the stove with the burners lit. It stands to reason that if they hold a flame, they will cook (but I do love food porn). You can start customizing now (just don't let the cat out of the bag). Pictures should be of at least three different angles (one with burners lit) and sized per forum guidelines. Pics may be submitted to the email address in my profile. I will start accepting pics December 1, 2012. Deadline for entry will be December 23, 2012 (this will give me time to sort and post). Voting will begin on or about January 1, 2013 and be open for 10 days.

Aside from date changes, any other changes proposed?

I said it already because there were three of a kind last year. Get your own!
And no. So sorry I dont carry one shot. I have to buy it from other paint stores. But I can get it if you need some odd color.

That ought to cover it, with some date changes...think it ought to be posted up in the general discussion to build some enthusiasm and maybe some other potential entries that aren't regular Vintage camping types? We really need to get some people to join in to make it a monumental event. We need to do something to build some "buzz" around it. It's a challenge to get others to join in on this type of thing as it requires work!

Several years ago I did contests for I think 3 years in a row with a $50 prize and had a tough time getting people to join in. What was kinda disappointing is that all you had to do was to post a pic of your shop. Doug

Ok, here is what I have for now. Anyone have anything to add before I post the announcement in the general forum?

In the vintage camping equipment forum, we did a custom stove contest last year. Even though we only had three participants, it

was a whole bunch of fun. We have decided to do it again. We hope to get more participation by getting the word out earlier this

year. If you don't want to customize your regular user, you can usually pick up a stove at garage sales or thrift stores for very

little money. This is just a fun contest (just bragging rights, no prize). Steve (woodbutcher) won last year with his well

traveled suitcase stove.

(add picture)

The rules are simple:

Use any commonly available two burner stove. It does not have to be Coleman brand and while we prefer white gas stoves, propane

stoves are acceptable.

You may customize in any way you want, but the stove must be able to fold and pack away.

You must submit pictures from at least 3 angles to give us a good overall view of the design. Also, one picture must have the

burners lit (the stove must be useable).

Start customizing now. This will give you plenty of time to play with your design. Try not to let us know what you come up with,

it is more fun to have them all revealed when the voting starts.

Pictures should be sized for forum use. Email the pictures to the address in my profile. To encourage more participation, You can

email the pictures to me as soon as your stove is completed. Submissions will be accepted until December 23, 2013.

Once I have all submissions, I will build a photobucket album so that all the pictures can be seen in one place. I will also build

a poll for voting in the poll forum that will be open to all users for 10 days. The winner will be declared after voting closes.

We really would like as much participation as possible (both customizing and voting), it is much more fun that way. So drag out

that crusty stove or pick one up on the cheap and join us! If you don't want to build a stove, then watch my signature for the

announcement and please vote for your favorite stove.

Guess the contest is a go. I had best get crack-a-lacking and come up with an idea.

Do both burners have to work? only the original lid/wings have to fold up as original?

Both should be able to work. As far as folding/packing, even if custom elements need to be removed, it still needs to be able to pack away. Any removed custom elements should be able to pack inside as well. The intent is to keep the stove useable for daily camping.

I'm too busy building my TD to spend time on a custom stove, but I really like following the contest and look forward to seeing this year's entries.

Also, it has given me a really good idea for a future contest entry. Maybe if the weather gets too cold to build I can find the time.
