I like it! We had a Coleman camper that was along the same design. It was a little bigger than yours and had a large door on either side that flipped down. It was the best for storing stuff. When set up, the one side was accessible from the outside and the other was accessible from the inside. The bed was at least queen size and the tent area was huge. It had a canvas cover that snapped down over the top when it was closed up.

My grandfather had the Apache that folded out on each side and you went inside through the rear.

Good luck..

You would think so, but if your still talking Wranglers, they are both rated for 2000 pounds. They are limited by their wheelbase. It really is no fun towing anything heavier with a Wrangler. I have moved my boat around with mine and it's real squirrelly and feels like the "tail is wagging the dog". My boat is right around 2000 pounds.

I pulled the 2300# Scamp with my Wrangler when it was stock. It basically pulling to a stop on highway hills...no not really but in 2nd gear (manually put in it) @40mph just didn't feel like I could use the 2 together. And since it weighed more than the TJ, I was hesitant to make turns with any kind of speed. (Drove only 2-3 miles to test it out.)
I didn't want to pay for storing the Scamp (@$360/yr), so I sold it. Then went looking for something lighter and smaller and found this forum. That was some time ago.

Ok, per Edmunds ...

2001 TJ 2000 lbs capacity for both 4 and 6 cyl, it's a short wheel base thing not power.

2006 TJ 4 cyl 1000 lbs, 6 cyl 2000 lbs and Unlimited 3500 lb

It's a short wheel base thing not power, the Unlimited has a longer wheel base, a tad more weight, but the same 6 cyl and it gets a 1500 lb higher rating.

Ive got to think its a liability issue for JEEP. If I remember correctly, the towing capacity on a, say 73 CJ5, was about 5000#s. I used to flat tow a CJ5 with a CJ5 (It was a little modified, 9" rear and 4:56 gears).

Yes, I'm sure liability plays a big part in the sue happy US. In many other countries the same vehicle will carry a higher tow rating.

What I find funny is my Miata is not tow rated in the US, although I can buy a hitch rated for a 400lb trailer. So I wonder what my insurance company will say if I have an accident and I'm towing?

Wranglers have an issue with brakes and a short wheelbase for towing. Better choices for towing would be the Cherokee (84-01, and designated XJ), or a Liberty (still called a Cherokee overseas, designated KJ), if you are not so worried about fuel mileage, the Grand Cherokees (designated as WJ or ZJ) are good options.

The newest Jeeps use different two letter designations, many with a K instead of a J.

For you Jeep owners, Jeepforum is as much about Jeeps as this forumis about Tears.
