Looks like the sides aft have been cut down which may be to your advantage. Are you thinking of epoxy or polyester resin for the build? I've been reading that much of the pressure treated wood at the BORG is straight grained fir under the goop. Reuel Parker, a big time sharpie builder down your way has been using it for stringers, floors and trim and it looks good on his boats. Can't wait to see the paddle wheel turning and steam whistle blowing. Any volunteers with musical/dancing talent want to sign on to Steve's Showboat?

This is supposed to be a back water shallow draft cruiser, hull speed will be sufficient thank you. Don't want to undo what I do by pounding through the surf. No paddle wheels either.... An outboard will work OK. I saw a collection of old steam whistles that included a steam calliope the other day. Now that would be fun on a river cruiser.... just have to figure out how to build a head of steam.....(maybe a small compressor and air tank would do) Wouldn't use polyester resin on anything myself, I'm an epoxy kind of guy. Thanks for the tip on the fir lumber.

It is strange to find a boatbuilding thread on a teardrop site.

If you guys are looking for easy to build designs of all kinds, I don't think you can beat this one.

http://www.bateau.com/index.php

Everything from house boats to river boats to flats boats to offshore trawlers in every size. What I like is a lot of their designs are outboard powered. A lot of designers start calling for inboard at 25 or 30 horses. And while inboard engines have their place, a good outboard can go many places, and can be a lot easier to deal with.
"Houses are but badly built boats so firmly aground that you cannot think of moving them.... The desire to build a house is the tired wish of a man content thenceforward with a single anchorage. The desire to build a boat is the desire of youth, unwilling yet to accept the idea of a final anchorage." - Arthur Ransome: Racundra's First Cruise, 1923

You think this is strange? You should have witnessed some of the threads that had to be "disappeared"

This guy isn't looking for easy anything Deb, cheap and easy.....that's another story. 8)

Salvador was a sailor, here's one of his boats, named after his wife. I've recently realized, before a boat can be built, a house needs a roof and the siding replaced and painted. But the dream shall persist.

I get a hit with my antivirus software when I go to that site. Claims it has a Trojan on it. Might want to be careful!
It worked until I fixed it!!!

Thanks for the heads-up RC.

Haven't visited page one of this thread in a while...

I'm using AVG Free, and it doesn't see anything on the caraboat site... What anti-virus are you using?

I am using the free version of Avast. It lit up twice. Once before I opened the site, and another time after I opened the site. Both times it barked about a Trojan, so I figured discretion was the better part of valor, and I stepped away from the keyboard (and their site). :D

Indeed - on canals with narrow locks, narrow boats are a really good idea!

Saw an ad for a 1944 river barge made for the US Army Corp of Engineers and remembered your post.
