Steve, I've often pondered the thought of placing a teardrop on a set of pontoons . I wonder if anybody has.<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa143/zukamini/paycheck_1_large.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa143/zukamini/paycheck_3_large.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I bought a set of 18' Solcat catamaran pontoons and set my TT up on them. I tow the setup with my 12' Jetstar jetboat. Works out pretty good. Bear in mind my camper can be picked up and placed on and off the cat by two guys. Last thursday I got a 12' trampoline to have cut down and put on the front of the cat so when we get to the beach the cat can still be used as a swim platform and trampoline for the kids to play on. Next will be a slide. [/img]

Had to blow the dust off this one, it's been sitting on the shelf for ten years. I drew up a set of plans and made a model for testing,( a lot cheaper than building a full size one and finding out balance, stability , and overall appearance is off) this one was based on the vintage lake and river cruisers. 24 ft. x 8ft. wide, shallow draft and a mild vee hull for sheltered waters.<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa143/zukamini/vintageboatoffbow.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa143/zukamini/vintageboatstarboardfront.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa143/zukamini/vintageboatstarboardside2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa143/zukamini/vintageboatstern.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

This boat intrigues the hell out of me! Did the model prove stable? I'd like to hear & see more! E-mail me direct if you want: [email protected]

Thanks!

Cool Boat Thread

Postby Alfred » Thu Jul 16, 2009 11:19 am

Hey Steve!

This is such a cool thread! I can't wait to see what you build!

I want to build one, too, but I think I better focus on the task at hand, which is getting my camper on wheels done first!

Still, the idea of floating down the St. Johns, or the Ichetucknee, or the Suwannee River in a little shanty boat seems like a great day, or week, or month, or I might not ever come back!

May I suggest a great book: Shantyboat by Harlan Hubbard. It's a biography of a man and his wife floating down the Ohio River onto the Mississippi to New Orleans. When you finish reading this, try his related book Payne Hollow. A true story of off the grid living from the early fifties to mid eighties.
I have wisdom beyond my years. In fact, I'm nearly senile.
