Looks like nice progress. One question on the AC Vent; Will you need some kind of screen on the inside to help keep bugs and critters out?

Good thought! I went looking for something that would work, and found a 4 x 14 piece of A/C filter material, called a "Register" filter. I bought a pack and am going to test soon. I'll let you know!

The register filter works great! I think I am done with the A/C vent.

The cord on the A/C was a bit long, so I shortened it up.

Now, I have A/C problems! In low speed, the fan rubs. In high speed, the fan doesn't turn at all! I don't get it.

I figured out the A/C problem. It seems the cabinet frame I put around it forced the A/C unit up about a quarter of an inch (This happened when I tightened the screws in the top of the frame). I took out all the screws and put the side ones in only. This relieved the pressure on the unit and it works as advertised now. I will soon be putting trim in that will hide the 1/4" gap at the top of the cabinet face.

Today, I started the hatch. I began by reading everything I could about the "Better than Hurricane hinge". Grant says allow a 3/8" gap. This piece of ply should work perfectly.

Then I built the corner. I screwed it in place. Working by myself, it seemed an efficient way to go.

I used pocket screws to put the vertical pieces in

Top and bottom

And, I built a pattern for my support pieces.

That's all for today.

It may be there and I just don't see it, but make sure you leave room for the seal along the sides of the hatch...

That's where I keep the ones I don't use. Simply a "Status" thing. :D

I have been playing with different ideas for that. I think I'm going to route a seat for it in the side of the galley. Thanks for reminding me, though... I still haven't figured that part out.

I installed the hatch supports while the hatch was on the weekender. Then I took everything off to line the inside

It's looking good!

I ran out of luan. Have to make another trip to Home Depot or Lowes!

Hard day today.
106º :sweaty:
Managed to put the hatch cover on using a "Better than Hurricane Hinge" I have that is a couple of inches too short. Makes a good test hinge.

Image

Got most of the luan in. Left the rightmost piece out, so I would work through it on the electrical.

Then I worked on the electrical.

It looks good. And I hear you about the heat, I am just down the road in Tucson, and it was a toasty one today.

Supposed to hit 113 today! But, I have to go to Palm Springs to take my Father in Law out to dinner. Should be 2 or 3 degrees cooler there.

Galen, that's a nice looking design in your album! Have you started it yet?

Yep, it is hot time. 8)

I have not yet started the build. I am buying a house in October, and I plan on starting it then. I will build it through the winter when it is cooler.

That gives me time to plan it out carefully. I just added an updated pic to my album to show how it is coming along. When the time comes I will be heading up your way (Phoenix) to purchase metal and wood, and probably epoxy and glass.

When I bought my house, all I did was work on "Honey-do's" for the first year! :D

Careful planning means fewer trips! I probably go to HD/Lowes/Ace 7-8 times a weekend!

Clif your weekender is looking great. I like the way you made the hatch. Looks like an easy build that way.
