Wierd Collapsible "Piedrop" idea

Postby billharrison » Tue Jul 20, 2010 3:46 pm

I keep mulling things over and over in my head and keep coming back to some sort of collapsible. I thought of a teardrop with expandable sides, but then it kinda hit me.

How about imagine a trailer shaped like a piece of pie. The front has a "Hinge" of sorts, and the back is curved. Looking down from above it would look just like a piece of pie. I am thinking of this then having 3 sections, the outer 2 both sliding into the center section, pivoting on the front.

When expanded, it would be a half moon shape. I dont know how to attach a drawing, but I think u might know what I mean. Is this possibly doable? Anyone tried this?

Seems like a way to get more space but be easily trailerable.

Possibly even have more than one room, like a main room and a bathroom.

Any input?

A bit wider in the rear and you could have more than a half circle. BUT it all has to nest together and be watertight in expanded and collapsed states. An interesting exercise in engineering but I would think doable.

When I first saw the drawing , I got a idea maybe it could be opened from a pie shape (towed) into a half circle front to back , more like up and over ???
Guess I should make a drawing too ..

What if, instead of making it a wedge that opens out, you made it taco-shaped, and the sides of the 'taco' dropped down to make the floor of the expanding side sections?

 How about turning the pie around? Might have some aero / mileage advantages if the front of the pie is close enought to your vehicle during towing.
